Beating the first man...

I'd have Kolorov taking corners from the right and Yaya taking them from the left

"What the actual fuck!" I hear you say

Well both take a wicked free kick and Toure can ping a ball into the top corner from 25/30 yards, so I'm pretty fucking sure he'd hit the area he's supposed to from a corner more times than not

I remember both David White and Andy Hinchliffe taking vicious inswinging corners back in the day and Toure and Kolorov should be doing that now
This and only this! Like that third goal for Soton vs arse yesterday. Hard inswinger dipping down in the danger area.

We've actually scored a fair few corners this season, especially compared to last, the goals almost always occur though when the corner is put "into the mixer" whether they're overhit corners or not i'm not sure but i wish it would happen more. it's very clear our "plan" is to put the ball at the near post for the first runner to flick on towards goal, usually Kompany when fit, seems to be Otamendi when he's not. You're able to direct an outswinger more than an inswinger hence the reasoning for that. It's a crap plan though as it relies on a very precise corner and then relies on the first runner to win the header just to get a chance at goal. I'd be baffled by the decision to continue with it and lose so much potential to score by putting the ball into the middle if there wasn't a dozen other seemingly equally as stupid decisions that Pellegrini makes.

There is this perception that we are shit at corners. Certainly that was the case last season when we were "corner counting" during that long sequence of shit. However, our overall record of goals scored from corners under Pelle is good. In fact no team has scored more in Pelle's time here albeit we are awarded more corners than most.

2013/2014 - Joint 1st ( City 12, Liverpool 12)
2014/2015 - Joint 4th (City 8 behind QPR 9, Chelsea 10, WBA 14)
2015/2016 - Joint 1st (City 6, Palace 6, Bournemouth 6, Norwich 6)

I would say that the ratio of corners scored v taken would be a more realistic stat - we attack more so probably get a lot more corners than most/all teams

We had a similar thread last season , when our corners were bobbins , but we have improved ten fold this season , with Otto and Bony winning their fair share of headers , although Mangala has been disappointing he came with a reputation of scoring goals in the French league , yet to see any evidence of this , (apart form the Hull and Dipper games , where he took his goals very well :)

He'd have a job scoring in the French league as he's never played in it!

The way a team takes its corners is down to how they're instructed to. The manager clearly wants us to win near post headers for a flick on so we do it 9/10 times. The problem is it works about 1/50 times.

Simple kdb in swing from the left and silva/kolarov to inswing from the right for some reason though we prefer the out swinger of navas and silva! Though we have scored a few from set plays I'd like to see more variety! I don't think we ever practice them for or against!

An inswinging corner is much easier for the keeper to deal with - a ball swinging away from the keeper puts him in doubt. Also an out swinging ball is better for players to attack. The key is the execution - clear the first defender and we will cause problems.
Always something to find fault with if you look hard enough. I am pretty happy with our overall performance and this season delivery into the box (from set and open play) has been improved in my view.
