Becoming a history teacher..

A3. I DID go to that one, and know at least 60,000 other people who will swear that they also went.

I did not, however, go to York away.

Nostalgia, like History, is all in the past.

I also went to A3...It was feckin freezing stood at the virtually deserted scoreboard end.

I did not go to York away though,.. but did go to Newcastle 1968.

Who was it said "History is bunk?"

Thanks for the comments,

You're probably right, I don't have much chance of getting on a history pgce.

I'm going to have a look into teaching business. When push comes to shove it has some benefits that teaching history doesn't

Just remember that not many schools would have a full time business teacher as there won't be too many kids choosing it and it would usually only be taught to KS4 children. This would mean that you would only be given part time hours, or more likely, you would need to teach something else to make up the hours i.e. you would teach business part of the time and r.e./citizenship/a other smaller subject the other part of the time.

yes i've thought about that,

but maybe teach in a six form?

I do worry about the amount of positions available. I could always go abroad i guess

I thought about teaching history once but it's all in the past now.

Yes, very good.....

Here's a few (important) history questions every pupil should know the answer to:-

Q. When was the first Wembley FA cup final, where numbers were worn on the back of players shirts?

Q. What is the highest ever attendance at a football league ground in England?

Q. What was Manchester City's lowest ever attendance for a league game at Maine Road?

A1 1933...Everton 3 Manchester City 0

A2 1934, 84,569....Sixth round of the FA cup. Manchester City 1 Stoke City 0
(Eric Brook scored from a corner kick.

A3. 16th January 1965...Manchester City 1 Swindon Town 2......Attendance 8,014 + Dave Ewing's back 'eader!

(Mike Summerbee scored for Swindon)

Edited for historical accuracy! The tv prog about the history teacher was called 'The History Man'!

As others have said it is very competitive to get a place on a History PGCE course. Even more so now as some institutions have simply stopped doing that particular specialised PGCE. I have a degree in History and applied back in 2009. I got one interview out of my 4 choices and got told I did well but could do with more classroom experience. I've went and got more but found that a lot of teachers teaching history weren't actual history teachers, but specialised in other areas because there simply wasn't the demand for history teachers. No idea what it's like now as I haven't pursued it since.

Good luck with what you decide mate.

I would love to teach history because it is a real passion of mine.

I'm going to look into teaching business but I want to make sure there is the demand there.
