Beginning of the End?

Re: Beggining of the End?

Scaremongering bullshit! This planet can survive almost anything, our era is a meager speck in time! A few power stations for 100 years are unlikely to cause as much damage as at the p/t extinction when everything went tits up! The human race is clever enough and thus planet is strong enough to sustain life for a very long time yet

The planet may survive anything but the human race could be destroyed any day.

humans will survive most catastrophes! Nuclear bunkers for example can sustain life for years, giving the planet enough time to Rejuvanate itself! Even if only a few dozen people survive a disaster, a population could still be rebuilt

Whales all over the planet have suddenly decided to change their song for the first time in earths recorded history and scientists have no explanation for it. Maybe it is the same reason that this has happened to the starfish.

That's misleading.

Whales' songs have been steadily dropping in pitch for 8 years consecutively. As they are only dropping a fraction of a hertz each year, scientists thought it was an anomaly, but have now started to test theorise over a deliberate event.

It's funny that the original paper (it was in Nature, look it up) actually celebrated this idea as it seems that whales (due to global protectionism in habitats) have started to learn each other's language and are now developing a shared culture. This was a fantastic, magnificent, beautiful moment where humanity witnessed the exact moment that a species began to develop a community around a shared language, and those bastards have turned it in to a fucking sign of Armageddon. Really pisses me off when they do that.

Oh, and recorded history of whales started in 1972.

Re: Beggining of the End?

I had that fucking 4 Non-Blondes 'What's Up?' song stuck in my head for days last month. Bearing in mind that whales are a lot bigger than me, is it not possible that they just get songs stuck for longer - like centuries instead of days? And now they've finally got rid of their Whaley non-blonde equivalent, we're all sat here criticising them? God - they can't do right for doing wrong!
