"New players are coming in a few months and I might be overtaken. I don't see myself playing for City in two or three years, lifting trophies.

"It's going to stop quickly. My body won't hold up for a long time. I'll soon be 31 and that will quickly become a problem. I won't be able to play at my best any more and I will stop playing.

"I have had seven knee operations in the last nine years. I can't string three games a week together. My body does not allow me to play all the time."

Am I the only one gutted to read that? I really, really don't want him to go =( He has become such a fans favourite and rightfully so. Commitment, goals, work-rate - it's everything you could ever wish for. If he does then he won't be forgotten. £14,000,000 is a bargain for this man and when he retires he can do so with his head held high. He will bow out remembered as one of those who you loved on your side but hated on the oppositions and that is testiment to the way he plays.

Craig Bellamys a legend ;) stay with us pal :)

to all those saying he coukd be a great impact player, i would say: does he really want to be just an "impact player"? wouldnt he rather leave with the memories of him being a city regular taking the piss out of full backs for the full 90 minutes? i think as soon as bellers knees tell him its enough, he'll retire pretty sharpish. would love for him to be a coach though

to be honest i can only see him playing for another 2/3 years at most as his knee is really screwed up

tbh mate I really think he needs to take his head of his arse, don't get me wrong I love the guy but sometimes I look at him after he's scored and it seems like he feels he's doing us a favour, maybe that's his cockiness I dunno.

Are you being serious ?

bellamy has been fantastic. when we signed him we all had him down as a striker but he has been so efficient on the left wing. plays with passion and commitment. i cant knock that.

Herein lies the problem

How bad is Johnsons knee compared to Bellamys?

hard to tell. Johnson's had 1 bad injury and Bellamy's never fully recovered.

I doubt we'll see the same MJ on the pitch but he should be able to come back and if he could work as hard as bellers then he could be a good player for anyone.

I think we should let Bellamy choose when he's had enough and then make him a youth coach. Maybe he'll be more relaxed off the pitch but he can be a role model on work ethic, determination and desire to the youngsters and inspire them to work as hard as he does(minus his gobby mouth) and he could really help bring out the best in our youngsters.

I think the situation will work in Bellamys favour in the summer.

If we bring in a few more players, which i think we will, that would make it easier for squad rotation, and stopping him from over doing it on his knees.

Even when Bellamy finishes, i think he should stay on as a coach, as he has mentioned he has been working with the youth set up already. His attitude (work ethic) and his knowledge about the game would be invaluable to some of the up and coming youngsters, who may get complacent..

tbh without his mouth, he wouldnt be anywere near the same player. his willingness to bollock others who arent pulling their weight, even robinho (and even hughes didnt have balls to drop robby till his last game) shows how passionate he is to succeed

Would be great to see him in the Champions League with us next season if we can get in there.

His isn't getting any older, but maybe his age can see him suited more to an impact sub and the odd start here and there. There isn't many people i'd rather have as an impact sub running at tired legs.

Haha brilliant!

similar statement to what he said when he arrived, hopefully city will realise what and important impact player he can be for 3 or 4 years more,he hasnt lost any pace or trickery.so as long as we can manage his knee properly i can see him playing 15 - 20 games a season for a few years yet.

All my mates could never understand why I was always a massive fan of Bellers at every club he`s been at.
However in my local there are a lot of Dippers and they couldn,t believe why he was never given a better chance at LFC (apart from the golf clubs lol)
Even by Bellers admission it is his arrogance that makes him what he his,a truly devouted footballer and a bad loser !!!
Wish we had a few more like him in the team.
Hopefully he can last another 2 years and if more games come up (CL !!) then we may only see him play ONCE a week.
That would still be brilliant news for us.
Keep flying past `em Bellers !!!
Hope Neville the turd plays next week.Bellers will have a field day !!

Might not be able to play a full match in a few years But what an Impact player to have on the bench.
