We tried to buy more or less any top player that would have kept the cause on the up and Drogba was targeted ..along with the duo from Valencia ..Villa and fellow hit man. Hughes always wanted RSC and i agreed ..however i worry whether he was indeed a one season wonder. There were other big names but still in chill out following the window ..which is old hat. The only game i saw Bendtner play he impressed with 2 goals and then he looked as if he could not care less .

Dont want to alter the thread but ZAKI was never targeted as i would be interested in peoples views on on him as he has all the things we are looking for short term .( before a star can be found )

just read on daily mail website that we failed in deadline day loan bid for Bendtner, apparently we were striving to sign a tall centre forward as our bid for RSC floundered.....

i get the feeling from the article that this is true rather than speculation and as such all it has left me doing is shaking my head in disbelief at our inability to have a plan B for a "targetman".

we have now let our only player who can head a ball go to a team above us in the league and although i am relatively happy with our winter window i think it is scandalous that we were scrabbling about trying for a loan as the window drew shut.
