Not convinced that only having 3 full backs on the books was covering all eventualities, particularly not when, as we've already seen, the 3rd choice, Danilo, looks hugely uncomfortable going forward down the left flank. Presumably Mendy was bought specifically for the way he plays, so to have cover that can't play that same way, isn't evidence of great forethought in my book. We are little better at centre half either. Kompers has, to the surprise of no-one, succumbed to his calf problem already, and we are now an injury to Stones or Otamendi away from having one recognised central defender at our disposal (Tosin being not good enough for what would be asked of him IMO). We have a mammoth schedule ahead of us, so to leave ourselves so short is just sloppy in my book. It's not our fault that the market this summer was insane, but I spent most of it saying Van Dyke - or someone similar - should have been the priority, not Sanchez, and I stand by it

Can't have cover that is same quality as Benji, mate, otherwise he wouldn't be cover!

We've got enough to get us through until Jan and then we reassess and see who is available.
 
Didn't think I could love Mendy any more than I already do, but that tweet to Castles is great.
 
What I love about that tweet is that Castles hasn't been his usual twattish, condescending self to try and worm his way out of reporting lies. Well played, our Benjamin. Well played.
 
Hasn't Kyle Walker played at left back to good effect for Spurs and/or England, enabling Denilo to play in his preferred right back position? Just a thought.
 
Even if it is a ruptured ACL or not, I can just see Castle's being smug about it if he is correct even though Mendy only pointed out that even he didn't know so why is this so called journalist saying it. People like that annoy the fuck out of me.

It's not so much the drop in quality I'm on about, but the fact that the replacements can't play the same way as he does. Kolarov could have done in as much as he loved to try and overlap and lash the ball in with his left peg, but Danilo against Brighton more closely resembled Clichy (albeit a vastly improved version) in that he constantly sought to check back on to his right foot and ended up laying the ball backwards. The loss of impetus was clear cut.

On a separate note, good to see him pitching in to that stump Castles!

Kyle still needs to up his game at right back after the busy night he had against Shaktar D.

Mendy's tweet simply nails Castles for *guessing (*to gain cheap rag clickbait), whatever the outcome.

Sagna is a RB, whats the point to be honest? Don't think he could do any better than Danilo at LB either.
