Not sure if Essien's original injury was as bad as Mendy's? Essien had two ACL injuries and operations on his right knee 2008 & 2011 and one on his left in 2010. Perhaps he had an innate physical weakness.
That must have been a difficult few years for him.

I’ve done mine twice and a Physio told me just that, that some people’s posture/biomechanics makes them prone to it. Obviously I’ve not received the rehab a professional athlete receives but it’s a fucker to recover from.

Completely true, bud - really well said. Psychologically, it is very difficult for the first few months, even playing recreationally. Unless Delph is injured and we get nobody in Jan, I am not sure I see the point of risking Mendy this season. Maybe the odd cameo off the bench if we are chasing a game, but otherwise best let him fully recover and get ready for pre-season (or just possibly World Cup).

I don't think Mendy is the type to be psychologically challenged by it.

because I don't think he has that type of character, if anything I think the safety net will be from Pep being cautious with him rather than Mendy.

There's an International Break at the end of March, so France will have organised some friendlies once they know who they've drawn in the World Cup.
It might transpire that Mendy's got those games in mind, if only to show the French Manager that he's virtually ready.
