Not sure if it was a freak goal but Jesus' header at the end of last season raised my eyebrows. He seems decent enough in the air, huge spring too. I remember him nearly scoring a header with one of his first touches v Spurs with a great leap. Mendy was crossing to Falcao last season. He's not exactly a giant. All you need is good movement to lose your man and then a cross to match. Look at Falcao's header against us. Deadly cross, a relative midget scored with his head. Pretty simple. Even Aguero has scored some nice headers for us. Plus, a cross doesn't always need to be to someone's head. Kolarov has been crossing to Aguero for most of his City career, and the wee man has been gobbling them up. I think it's quite old fashioned, Big Sam tactics to think that we need to cross to Peter Crouch otherwise don't bother.
Agreed. Some of Jesus's in the box movement was outstanding. As for Falcao, he has always been one of the best headers of the ball from this generation. Movement, leap, anticipation and experience. He has all in spades. Some player just have that knack and he does.

Yes, the reason why I asked the original question was because I was trying to differentiate btw what we already have (Kolarov's low whipped in crossed) and what Mendy will bring. Kola is just as good at the driven cross, its lobbed crossthe dropped into the danger area that he is not so good at.

That notion was the basis for my original comment.

There's a massive difference between Mendy's low crosses and Kolarov's though.

With Kolarov, the winger waits and waits and waits until he's on the overlap, then gets it after catching up to play, marked by the winger who's jogged back with him, slows down, takes a few steps away from the ball and fires the ball into a crowded box with settled defenders.

Mendy hits the overlap immediately, bombs forwards and hits the delivery on the run at a box where the defenders are still running back towards their own goal, and the midfielders haven't got back. The opposition RB probably has to come out to meet too because 90% of the time the winger hasn't tracked back that quick - so that's another defender not in the box.

Kolarov may be as good from the perspective of hitting the ball, but he's always had to slow down before crossing, and these days he's so slow that there's 10 defenders standing ready to defend the box when his cross eventually comes in. That's why there's such a massive difference in the success of his crossing vs. someone like Mendy.

Been lurking on here for a bit, like you do. One can only assume from empirical observation is that if Trendy Bendy appears not at the CFA today, there will be a modern mass extinction not seen since the meteor kicked the dinosaurs into touch. Good luck everyone
