Benjamin Pavard

Indifferent to him as a player honestly and would much prefer we kept Walker.. but he's obviously got some quality and played as a RB and CB about the same number of times last year so he would undoubtedly be a useful player to have.

Trying to approach this one from a more positive view despite not liking the news initially.

Underwhelming was my very 1st thought I've never particularly rated the guy, he's a very boring player he's not very strong not very quick and not dominant in the air either nowt stands out... If I was grading his stats on a piece paper I'd give him a lot of 7's and 8's out of 10.

However he is tactically intelligent quite careful defensively and positions himself very well, he's in my view a limited player, but... I think those limitations might also be a possible strength as he also knows exactly what his limitations are, that as daft as it sounds is very rare for a footballer nowadays, he knows what he's gonna do because he's actually very aware he's not the best. I've found myself thinking that even though I don't rate Pavard I can't honestly recall him making many if any mistakes, can anyone else or is this me not thinking properly? Maybe that's what Pep likes most about him he keeps it all simple football is a game of mistakes.

Those mistakes if they happen for Pavard are quite rare, it was Cruyff who said it best (paraphrasing) the winning team is the one that makes the fewest mistakes, if we're carrying on with this system of 3 at the back and two defensive midfielders, he'd have plenty of options for passing even the right winger would come short, so I'm thinking this system may actually suit him and it could be that he suits us very well with his cautious limited style.

I don't particularly like or rate the guy all that that much, and personally believed his World Cup goal while being a Bundesliga played, got him all that hype which earned his Bayern move.

Nevertheless you don't need a whole squad of world class players to win trophies, you need a certain amount and for the others to be very consistent and rarely make mistakes.

Pavard is the epitome of average but he's so consistently average that he never really makes mistake, if he joins I predict he could quickly become a favourite, due to the fact he retains possession is positionally aware maybe and rarely makes a mistake.

Although in all honesty I've never liked him should he sign I'd give him a chance... I'd hope he changes all the negative aspects of my opinion on him very quickly, maybe he's the type of player you need to have to fully appreciate him.

Looks like we might be playing 6 2 2 this season and Pep has this fantasy of 38 1-0 wins.
