"Ernie" was a fun song but the creep's tv shows were among the most cringe-inducing things ever put out.

I've seen some of the later shows it just got tired
I don't think it ended cos of the "cancel brigade" it just wasn't that funny anymore which it certainly was at its peak.

I loved it as a kid but as I grew older just leered at the half dressed women, then got fed up as it was no longer funny. I seem to recall as an older teenager it seemed a bit pervy due to the old men/young women dynamic.
In the end what I remember it was just regurgitating old tired sketches. Probably the best stuff was early on.

Correct. For some unknown reason, some clips of him came up on my recommendations on YT. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that they haven't aged well.
