Bernardo meets Paul Lake

My favourite player of that era. Such a shame he suffered that ACL injury. He would most likely have still been playing these days.
He definitely would. Problem for Lakey was he had Peter Swales as his chairman who tried to deal with his injury on the cheap.

Watching this, makes me feel bad when I read in the recent match forums , how we denegrate brilliant players like Bernardo, KDB, John Stones Gundo, Ederson, who have all been stalwarts and brought massive success to our club. Now they are either ageing and slowing down( which is normal) or else susceptible to injuries( also normal) and we can’t wait to get rid of them.Instead they should be thanked and revered, yes they have to be replaced, but let’s not slag them off when they are City, through and through.Let’s thank them for taking us to such great heights.

It always breaks my heart when I see Paul lake. Just the thought of what could and should have been.

I have no right to get sad about it, but I can’t help it. He’s an absolute gentleman and my God, what a player he was. And what a player he would have been.

Good to see this and good to see Lakey looking so well.

100% but sadly given the state of the club at the time he would have been sold off by Swales.

Great stuff that. Lakey was a gem of a player - the absolute pick of the academy for years and his loss via injury a terrible blow and so unfair to him, and indeed us. Im convinced hed have played 50 plus times for England and our decent early 90s teams wouldve won something as well had we had his presence within them rather than the sorrow of losing him.

How can you not love Bernardo; his selection of the European Cup semi-final and the 2-1 Liverpool game of January 2019 were perfect I thought. That Liverpool game remains the best quality Premier League/1st Division game Ive ever seen in terms of ability, pace, tension, atmosphere, stakes - it had the lot. The Etihad absolutely crackled that night.

That European Cup semi-final 2nd leg win remains the best Ive ever seen any Manchester City team play - Ive been going to City since 1977; Real Madrid with all its stars couldnt get out of their own half. What a night and atmosphere too - a game and a joy Ill take to my grave with me.
