We would still have to cough up de Jong's wages if you are considering a swap for the two. And if it was just cash they don't have the immediate funds to make the purchase
Barca would have to supplement his wages. Perfect deal for city. I would rather we swap now than Barca making a late bid and leaving us looking for a replacement.

Not in their current state. They want him completely off their books.

Haaland is one of the most prized signings in half a decade, perhaps a generational talent with the right coaching, gives everyone at the club a positive jolt/buzz, had a relatively low buyout clause (which would mean a decent sign-on bonus is very likely), and was not a haphazard makeweight transfer to make up for losing one of the most well-liked and respected players at the club.

They are nowhere near the same players, nor the same situation, and will be viewed very differently amongst the playing staff and their representatives.

That wouldn’t mean much when it comes to players asking for more money.

It absolutely would. One is seen as an absolute coup by City (both inside and outside of the club), the other as a panic deal still being compensated similarly.

There is no way that Haaland’s and De Jong’s transfer — under the perimeters you and I are discussing — would be viewed the same way by the players and their agents.

If it gave them an avenue to ask for more money, they’d absolutely take it.
