Bernardo finds himself in a tough spot, after the 2018/19 season he signed a new 5 year deal to the existing deal he had signed in May 2017 when he joined, following a fantastic season.
After a difficult start to the 2019/20 season with the Mendy FA charge controversy, COVID-19 hit, & it's fair to say the lockdown period hit Bernardo harder than most @ City. He couldn't jump on a flight home to see his family at his leisure (something clearly important to him) any more and found himself locked in a city away from loved ones. Fast forward to summer 2021 & he clearly wanted out for said personal reasons.
This brings us to last season where, being the ultimate professional that he is, he was fundamental in us winning another league title and reaching another CL SF. This clearly coincided with the lifting of the UK lockdown, hence alleviating the issues listed above, clearly improving his happiness in Manchester.
Now, my reading of the situation is this, if Bernardo could get closer to home, whether it be Barcelona, Real Madrid, Benfica etc he would. The issue the lad has is that he signed that contract in 2019, & it runs for another 3 years, he is at minimum a £100m asset & finally is clearly key to Pep's plans. On top of this is fact that the clubs listed above either aren't in for him, or contrary to what they brief to their local media to appease their supporters, have no way of financing a deal for him.
I don't believe Bernardo is unhappy enough to rock the boat, or to force a move, & is accepting enough of his 'situation' to realize he is in the best possible place to fulfill his sporting ambitions. On a personal level he will play a waiting game before moving to sunnier climates and closer to home when his contract & the market provide better conditions for him to do so. Meaning he'll be a City player for @ minimum another 12 months, as common-sense tells you it's unfeasible for him to be anywhere else for the reasons stated above. Next year will be his first realistic chance of a move if he still desires one.
