Bernardo Silva

Those comments tonight are not encouraging. I'd be gutted to see him leave. Not only an exceptional footballer but an exceptional human being; you get the impression there isn't a bad bone in his body and having someone like that in the squad is a blessing.

But, and this is the caveat, I don't think we should stand in his way if he wants to leave. He's been a model professional for us, contributed to a glut of trophies, provided beautiful moments on the pitch, and as aforementioned been an inspiring figure in the dressing room; all this in spite of homesickness that has evidently troubled him for two seasons now. If his resolve is unshakable we shouldn't stand in his way, we owe him that much. Of course, we can't be mugged off. We can't be lowballed. I don't think we will fetch £100mil; I reckon it will be ~£80mil and so long as we throw that right back at Barca for de Jong I'd be content. Not a like-for-like swap, but then players like Bernardo are unique. FDJ is a world class midfielder who could comfortably fill the position vacated by Bernardo, as well as providing versatility to deputise in other midfield positions.

I’d be pretty shitty if Bernardo decided to leave after FDJ became unavailable…

If he does leave there’s no chance in fk they don’t get FDJ in return. De Jong doesn’t want to go play for some pathetic rebuild where the goal is simply to make UCL for the following year if city are an option. No chance in hell.

All moot anyway. Bernardo ain’t going anywhere.

He's either off or a new contract based on those comments. We're fucked without him, FDJ is class but he doesn't have the qualities Bernardo has and the team as a whole sorely lacks the qualities Bernardo provides. There's nobody else in the team that can do Bernardo things. Not only would we lose our midfield dynamo, Rodri will also suffer significantly too as we will be caught wide open much more often and his mobility issues will be exploited. Whatever it takes to keep the little brilliant bastard here.

Not sure what to read into this. We will find out soon enough. New deal or a transfer. I hope he is now happy & settled in Manchester. Hate to lose such a talented player due to off field issues.

Obvious really.. he turns 28 in August and his next contract will be his last big payday.

If Barca offer him the moon.. he'll want to go but if City match it or beat it.. he'll stay.

With Barca's financial trouble I'd say we're favorites to keep him.

That said it seems the current football world is going towards free transfers and a massive signing on bonus for the next contract in effect getting rid of transfer fees.

So he may choose to go down that route and leave for free and get a huge signing on bonus/ salary but the current City contract doesn't expire for 3 more years (2025) and he'd be 31 then.

City paid top money for KDB as a 30 year old so they may do the same with Bernardo.

If he's smart he will "make City nervous with flirtations that increase City's offer" but renew while his value is really high to them but up to him.

I don’t think he is going anywhere. I love Bernardo but he is not indispensable imho.

He won’t be going to Barca as they have to bring in 4x the amount they spend under La Liga rules meaning if they paid us 100 million Barca have to recoup 400 million. Clubs know Barca’s position and they aren’t getting that this window.

If he goes to Barca it seems obvious to me it means FDJ comes to city. There’s simply no other way it could work. But agree and again, moot….he’s not going anywhere.

If by some small chance that does come to fruition the amount of pull Barca still have when in complete shambles would be somewhat impressive. Lewa is hellbent on going there for some reason and while he’s on the tail end of his career, still seems weird.

It's been 2 years and Bernardo still wants to leave for spain, last summer he almost ready to depart but because no one can afford him back then there's nothing he can do. Being professional he is, he understands of why he can't leave back then. Instead being unhappy and toxic, he playing the best of he can for majority of this season almost as if he wants to leave a best parting gift for us because he already thinks this will be his last season playing for us.

He is been good servant for us for 5 years, if he wants to leave this summers then he can leave provided that any club that wants to afford him meet the city valuation. His reason for playing near his family is understandable and i wish him all the best.

I wouldn't trade bernie for anyone. No chance. I even supported him in 2020/21 when everyone said he is over. But if he somehow forces a move out, i would only take fDJ plus 50M or FDJ plus gavi. Which they wont. He has a 3 year contract.
He is irreplaceable imo. He runs like a horse in every fucking game. So does Gabby and Gabby's leaving the stamina he offers to the team is enormous. There isn't a single player in the market with the qualities bernie has.

Maybe he should look at the situation sane is now and just have a little think the grass isn’t always greener. What really pisses me off though is why when we buy a player (expect haaland) we normally pay absolute top dollar. But when we sell it’s for fuckin peanuts!

I think that's a bit of a myth to be fair, The club has recouped alot of money in recent years on player sales and managing to get good money for some bang average players, I think it's the Sane deal we all look at personally i think he was worth an awful lot more than £54m.

Angus Gunn £11m
Angelino €17m
Ferran Torres £50m
Brahim Diaz £15m
Jack Harrison £11m
Jason Denayer £10m
Pablo Maffeo £8m
Douglas Luiz £15m
Danilo £33m
Nicolas Otamendi £13m

Just to name a few, All good deals for the club, Some players of which never even kicked a ball for us.

I'll be devastated if he goes. Thought he would be off anyway after last summer but allowed myself recently to start believing he might stay.

If he does want out then I hope we sort it sooner rather than later, while decent replacements are still on the market. I wonder if part of de Jong's stalling with united is because he's waiting to see what happens here first.

Hopefully we tell Barca to fuck off but I wouldn't begrudge him the move if he still wants out.
