Bersant Celina

But he's right. Unless Sane, Sterling, Navas, De Bruyne, Silva, Nolito and Nasri are all injured or severely out of form, Celina won't get regular games, Pep or no Pep.

I think his biggest problem might be that he's not the kind of winger Pep likes - he's not the very fast, beats players 1v1 a lot type.

It would have been good to see him as back up to Sané until January if Navas goes though.

Sterling/Nolito --- Aguero/Iheanacho --- Sané/Celina.

And Sterling could always come across to cover if it was a particularly big game of if Celina wasn't up to it.

Even prior to our big money, young attacking potential signings I thought the only way for him now is a loan, given that he hasn't played really under Pep so far in the summer, and that he's just not at the level required. Under Pellegrini, he was lucky in a way that all our attacking mids were missing at a time, as the likes of Aleix Garcia are way ahead of development.

The Eredivisie seems like an ideal scenario, just as it was for Byrne. He's still very talented of course, and at the very worst, we can easily sell him for a few quid afterwards.
'he's just not at the level required', not sure that that is true excepting his lack of 1st team experience, he's a lad that has that something different. Also A. Garcia plays in a different part of the pitch and wouldn't really impact on him. I hope he rips up the Eredivisie.

I know he plays in a different part of the pitch, well that's why I posted that Celina was somewhat lucky under Pellegrini. I don't think it's purely coincidental that either Celina and Manu Garcia barely featured in our preseason games, while they were training with the first team. But this is hardly any surprise, given our depth and current squad size. And of course, we still have some old attacking players that someday need to be replaced (Silva, Nolito, Navas - not to mention those who might leave shortly). So I hope Bersant will be patient and deliver abroad.

It's his comment about not being selected above a £40m player that irks me. If he shows Pep he has the ability he will be selected whoever we buy. The loan will only do him good if he has the self belief to succeed.

he is right though, he wont get enough game time and if we are spending 40m on someone they will play ahead of him

He's the same age as 40 million Sane though, go out to Twente and prove we were wrong to buy him and loan him out. He's not the same impact player as Sane, isn't he a number 10?

Age and experience are different. Both may be the same age but Sane is vastly more experienced.

I don't think we ever play him in his right position. We try and shoehorn him into the front 3. He's not a natural winger and he's certainly not a striker.
The best I've seen him play was in a midfield 3 with Kean Bryan holding and Celina and Boadu playing infront of him. He can pick a pass and make late runs into the box from there which in my opinion suits his game more.

Sané didn't have to go out on loan to prove his worth, same with Raheem. They were given a chance at the big clubs they were at and did well enough for their age to attract bigger clubs, eventually signing with us. I'm hoping now that we have secured Pep we actually see youth not get overlooked. Pellegrini wasted 3 years not giving many chances. We will start looking more like Chelsea if we continually loan out our kids to the Dutch league and cherry pick talented young players from elsewhere like they have. Our kids are beating other kids 7-1 and other high scores on the regular, they just might need a bit more.

They were given a chance because their clubs were in crisis and had fallen out of any meaningful competition.

At bigger clubs, loans will always happen. That's not new either.

Bersant has only just turned 20. The average age of Guardiola's debutants from the academies he's managed is 19,3 years. He has not been held back by Pellegrini. No one was saying Celina needed to be in the first team this time last year, it was only really midway through last season when he started to really do very well in the EDS - and he promptly got a couple of senior games and praise from the manager - there was even quite a lot of talk about Pellegrini wanting to give him a 5 year contract.

Now would be the time for him to expect to come through, but Pep has seen him in training for a month, and in the preseason game vs. Bayern, and decided to loan him out.

That's despite the fact we might sell Navas, Making Sané our only RW until January - it would have been a great opportunity for a youth player to come through - but Pep obviously doesn't think Celina can do that.

This is not a failure of the clubs youth policy.

This is simply Pep loaning out a player he doesn't have plans for.

Unfortunately Celina plays for a club that expects to win trophies. With that pressure, a manager is very unlikely to give you a chance unless you play so well you give him no choice.

I think he could have been given more chances before now. The one chance he got against Chelsea, he was played out of position with too many youngsters in the team. However, I still don't think he should come out witht he words he has done in that interview. It smacks of defeatism and is unlikely to impress any manager.

You could say Sane has been fortunate in that he has played for a club where expectations are much lower and therefore been given a chance, which it seems he has taken.
