MARK Hughes has paid tribute to the `forgotten man' in the Blues' Samba contingent.
Unlike his celebrated Brazilian teammates, Jo, Robinho and Elano, 25-year-old Berti Glauber has yet to see any first-team action since his move from the Bundesliga last summer.
Berti has been the ultimate benchwarmer, 19 times being named amongst the substitutes but not yet seeing any action.
The central defender, who can also play left-back, has unwittingly become a cult figure amongst City fans who serenaded him as he warmed up in last Sunday's derby.
Hughes accepts that there is no malice from the fans' towards the once-capped Brazilian but he is also keen to point out - for the sake of Berti's future employers - that he has nothing but praise for the player's attitude and application.
"In fairness to Berti he is a fantastic professional who has been a victim of circumstances that have not allowed me to get him on the field of play. That is a shame because I know that if he did play he would not let us down," declared the manager.
"The circumstances where I could let him show what he can do have not presented themselves but it is not a reflection on his ability. He is a good player.
"Berti works really hard in training on a day-to-day basis and is a very good professional."
Hughes is likely to be passing on that information to another manager shortly as Berti's one-year deal expires in the summer. He will also be breaking news to others as he trims his squad and wage bill to free up funds to bring in fresh faces.
"There are conversations to be had with players and out of respect for them they will be made in private," he said.
"Some of the situations are quite apparent to the players before you bring them in and that goes for the seniors as well as the youngsters. There is not easy way to do it but you just have to get on with it."
Up to a dozen senior players could leave City this summer either because they are out of contract or not part of Hughes' plans.
