Charlton was 86 Dec 28th to be exactDon't think we played Fulham in 81 remember getting a pasting in London was it selhurst park and Charlton were using their ground I'm open to being corrected we may have got battered at Fulham in 84
Thanks maccblue only going from memory I'm chuffed your not asking for my credentials !Charlton was 86 Dec 28th to be exact
Lost 5-0 Charlton hadn’t scored a goal for 6 games when we drew 1-1 at Maine Road previous
Forget about that one!!!!
What a shit day in the car nightmare journey both ways
Your right theres been a few games where we had a great chance and blew it. Palace in league cup was another, looked a decent team to play in a quarter final and got leathered 4 nil.Add to that the West Ham at home cup QF when we made Dean Ashton look like Pele. Pearce rested most of the first team on the Saturday before the game which was on a Monday but risked our uncut diamond Samaras who then got injured and couldn’t play. So disappointing that one,as West Ham got to the final although lost to the dippers when they should have won.
It’s was about my 3rd ever away game and the furthest I’d travelled so will always stay with me how shite we were and I loved every minute of it !!!Thanks maccblue only going from memory I'm chuffed your not asking for my credentials !
My favourite away game that one. Boxing Day 88 I think & a great day out even tho we lost. Batman & Robin on the pitch at half time, ET giving the dibble the V’s with his huge fingers, more City there than Stoke & loads of funny chants that day, which would be deemed inappropriate nowadays :)I was at Stoke on that day in 1981 too, for Trevors debut, although not in fancy dress , it was brilliant day ... i was stood in a packed paddock down the side of the ground, and they never got a look in .... City, and Francis, played really well in a 3-1 win.
Some pics of the match on this link ....
The best time at Stoke though , at least for fancy dress anyway, came in a 3-1 defeat down there on Boxing Day 1988 .. when Nigel Gleghorn scored ..... around 12,000 City fans turned up , and practically ALL of them were in fancy dress!
We had two sides of the ground .. again i was down the side of the ground, although this time in the seats , and i had a 'Vicar' sat to the left of me , and 'Batman' sat to the right .... there were thousands of bananas and various rubber toys being waved about everywhere!
The negative result just didn't seem to bother anyone that day!

I was at that Fulham game old 2nd division 84,had a fight in some social club next to ground after the game.Best - Dumping the rags at Wembley in the 2011 semi. Scoles sent off, Wio getting faux tough with Balo and the rags' world record fire drill. But most of all using them as a springboard to the final and the FA Cup win.
Worst - There have been many. Stockport in 2002 was awful but, although embarrassing, it didn't affect promotion. I'd probably go for Fulham about 1981 when we lost 5-1 to a seriously shit side. It rubbed it in when the scoreboard went on the blink and kept crediting City with goals we hadn't scored.
We were on Piccadilly approach going to get the train Mr D Francis had places on his coach we all went with him mad day still got some calling cards somewhere I think Mr D got nicked and missed the journey homeI was at that Fulham game old 2nd division 84,had a fight in some social club next to ground after the game.
