Best atmospheres at City home games

There were a few home matches during the 99/00 promotion season when City were outplayed for long periods, yet still contrived important victories. My memory might be playing tricks, but there seemed to be an atmospheric frenzy around these games.

Weaver playing Ipswich on his own
Kennedy on fire against Portsmouth
Horlock's last minute half volley to beat Grimsby
Two late goals to thwart West Brom.
Friday night nerves against Birmingham.

One game sticks out more than most was Everton (h) 1968 night match we won 2/nil I remember Tony book scoring I think Tony coleman got the other United were playing west brom (a) if i can recollect, they lost and by chance Everton and west brom were due to meet in the cup final, that game had everyone believing that we could in fact lift the championship trophy, wonderful atmosphere wonderful team

The second half v Stoke 2-1 was just amazing too. Would be interested to hear from other blues why all of a sudden, I think it was just after a couple of early tackles, that show of support happened?
Most of the other games mentioned had something riding on them but this was just a run of the mill game at Xmas. Yet that crowd support was something else - why though? Was that our defining stand as a collective of fans- a bit like Gandalf "thou shalt not pass". Or am I mad?

Haven't seen the league cup semi derby game mentioned yet.

The game where Tevez bagged the pen and cupped his ears at Taggart as we sang the 'sign him up' tune, and he gave it to the rat faced chuckle brother on the touchline.

Good shout

Atmosphere for both legs was poisonous, loved it

I also remember his second from that game which came from a quick throw from Carlo Nash (?) to Berkovic who then seemed to single handily take on the entire Norwich defence before slotting it home. Went beserk for that goal (or are we thinking of the same goal)

Tiatto was unlucky iirc.

Tiatto forearm smashed the Norwich lad on the back of the head, who had impeded him, it was a bit harsh but not an absolutely awful decision, the response from the team and thus the crowd that day was immense. As has been said Pearce screaming at their winger, was right in front of us, watching the lad flinch as soon as Pearce moved was funny as fuck. Eyal and Ali were brilliant that day. After that we seemed to just batter everyone out of sight at home, the bloke next to me used to have a quid on 5-0 and 5-1 every game, he had to change it to 7-0 and 7-1 as the odds on us getting 4 or 5 were too short.

I am sure that season is still held in high regard by those that went through it.

The team came out and had a go second half, Joe must have got stuck into them, the crowd responded in kind. It might have appeared to be a poor Christmas fixture beforehand, but wasnt a run of the mill game, it was probably the point where the oil tanker finally stopped and we started the process of turning it around, a pivotal moment in the club's history for me.

I think also Soke were riding high at the time and there was also the argy bargy when they ripped the fencing down between the separating the away fans from the kippax behind.

It was a pretty bizarre scene, looking over from the North Stand, watching kippax aa/bb lower emptying five minutes into the game

I remember when we beat Birmingham at home with Robert Taylor scoring the only goal. The atmosphere at the end was amazing and some of the crowd were on the pitch. It was a Friday night game, and the win virtually sent us up (cue the celebrations!). Us going up depended on the result of the Charlton v Ipswich game the next day, and suffice to say our celebrations were a tad premature on the Friday night, as the result from the Charlton v Ipswich game didn't go in our favour, so a promotion party had to be put on hold!.

Great atmosphere though!.

Charlton 5 - 1 and Simmos jig goal celebration stands out.
5 - 1 v the rags in 89 cant be far off
I remember a great atmosphere v Plymouth in the fa cup one year for some reason, think it might have been 88.
