Best black and white war films.....

Paths of glory
Longest day

Not really a war film as such but really loved first of the few. All about the designer of the spitfire.

Could Dr strangelove be classed as a war film?

Not sure about Dr Strangelove, one of my all time favourites though

Schindlers List
My mate and his partner took his grandson to Krakow last week.
They went to Auschwitz - Birkenau, which was quite harrowing, and also to Schindler's factory. It was difficult for them all to comprehend the scale of what went on, and the risks that Schindler took in saving so many lives. Apparently, the Birkenau camp is a lot bigger than Auschwitz, which I didn't know.

Another war film: 633 Squadron.

The Young Lions. Marlon Brando
The Train. Burt Lancaster
The Long, The Short and the Tall. Peter Finch
The Hill. Sean Connery.
Carve her Name With Pride.
Flight of the Phoenix.
The Silver Sword.
Diary of Anne Frank.
Run Silent Run Deep
A Walk in the Sun.
It Happened Here.

Went the Day Well
A wonderful, wonderful piece of cinema. Pure propaganda made when a German paratroop invasion was feared, 1941 or '42 I think. First saw it when I was off school ill, aged around 10, so mid-80s, and it's stayed with me ever since. Watch out for a very young Thora Hird.
