Best card for commuting to work

Friend does Bolton to Manchester train, it's the worst ever for crowding. You won't even get a folding bike on, passengers actually standing in toilets I am told

I’d look at moving if only to cheap lodgings during the week. In my time sharing we often had workers Mon - Fri contracting from elsewhere.

If there’s problems on the trains / roads then you could have over two hours getting home. That’s Manchester to London.

3 trains, a buzz and 90 minutes to get from Heald Green to just outside Bolton is madness and the worst bit is you only need one of those to be delayed or not turn up and you’re screwed.

The transport situation in and around Manchester is the only thing that stops me looking for a new job these days, I know I could earn 5-10k more elsewhere but the benefit of working from home half the time, having a works van and very little peak hours commuting make it very tough to change jobs even for the extra money.

Although the journey to South Wales and back yesterday was a **** but thankfully only happens once or twice a year.

So I'm kinda pre-empting this here, but I'm currently looking for a new job, and I'm currently waiting to hear back regarding a job interview, so nothing is set in stone.

Only problem is that it's in Bolton, and requires 3 train journeys, and a bus, it's not an issue as it's a train from Heald Green to Manc, Manc to Salford, Salford to Walkden and a bus from Walkden to Salford Rd...

What I'm currently looking for is a card that would let me use trains and Buses around these areas instead of relying on buying seperate tickets (to cut expense).

I'm in a position at the moment where I've only just started contemplating to learn to drive (pure coincidental), but will currently have to rely on public transport.

I've been told about the 'System One Adult County Card' which costs £118 a month, I'm assuming this would cover all areas (it says buses and trains around greater Manchester) but I know how misleading/arsey public transport offices can be.
I'm assuming with this card I'll be sorted? Or is there a better opportunity without telling me to learn to drive ;-).

The job I'm looking at pays double what I'm on now, and it offers far more potential as my current employer, so to me it's a no brainer going for the job and ignoring the travel exspense.

The 500 bus used to go from near Heald Green to Bolton, have a quick look see if that is still going mate

I don't drive and have had jobs all around Greater Manchester and Cheshire. From Bolton to Altrincham to the airport and have just finished a contract in Crewe. Like you buddy the commute has never bothered me.

Well at least this post will cheer the op up. There's always a way mate so do what you have too if you really want the job.

I’m assuming you’re only 21/22 by the 1996 in your username (apologies if not) and at that age it didn’t bother me as much either. For six years I was doing 60-90 minutes both ways from Oldham to Altrincham but in the end i left because of it, although as you get older sometimes you have other responsibilities you don’t always have that choice.

47, 1996 isn't my birth year. I've always done it. I've just done Crewe from North Manchester, 1.5 to 2 hours each way depending on luck. It doesn't bother me but obviously isn't for everyone
