Best City Player who was a City fan?

Good shouts on hear for Mike Doyle and Neil Young. Also Trevor Sinclair, who talked about his love for the Club long before he got a chance to play for us.

I'm fairly sure Mike Doyle was a boyhood blue and IIRC so was Neil Young who lived not far from Maine Rd as a kid.

My dad played with Youngie and went to school with him as well.

He was definitely a Blue, as was Doyle.

You will go a long way before you find any better players who supported and played for the Blues than those two.
Neil Young
Still my favourite player after all these years

Which of the lads (and how many have there been?)who grew up watching and supporting City and went on to play for us have been the best?

David White?
Paul Lake (was he a city fan?)
Stephen Jordan?

er.......Tony Vaughn?

I can't actually think of that many from my time. What about some of the greats from the glory days, any of them born and bred Blues?

Vaughan's a red.

The best in my lifetime surely has to be Lakey but I always had a soft spot for Andy May as well for some reason. It must have been his streaks.

I think that there are a goodly number of Blues of a certain age who began to fall out of love with City once players like Young were shat on. I know my dad still looks back on Mercers' departure and the break-up of his golden team with nothing short of hatred for the man responsible.

I had the same links to the Youth Cup winning side but not quite as golden ;-)

Erm... I'm sure Vaughan's a blue,he certainly spent a lot of time saying he was when he played for us,not that it really matters as he was shite!

I believe Michael Johnson is a Blue, though of course, I wouldn't say he's anywhere near the class of either Mike Doyle or Nellie Young.

Big Joe Corrigan was also City, though by his own admission in his autobiography, he started out as a red, until his dad pointed out the error of his ways.

-- Mon Sep 20, 2010 1:41 pm --

I believe Michael Johnson is a Blue, though of course, I wouldn't say he's anywhere near the class of either Mike Doyle or Nellie Young.
