I like to think I don’t go OTT re De Jong, but I just wanted to pick up on your post.

Diaby – he is not a holding midfielder at all. Never has been. He does not play in that position. His strength is his athleticism not his defence. As I stated on a thread the other day, he is vastly overrated. He simply runs with the ball until he is tackled. No Arsenal supporter I know rates him.

Khedira – overrated. Yes, I know he is now at Real but he had a good WC but looked no better than average before then. In the WC, it was Schweinsteiger that ran the midfield. Khedira simply built on the foundation of Schweinsteiger’s great work. As for Khedira, his passing, like NDJs, isn’t great. Let’s give it a bit more time and see how he does in Spain rather than judge him in a WC. Would he have been selected for the WC if Ballack and Borowski were fit?

De Rossi – one of those players I have never seen have a great game. Based on the performances I have watched, he is vastly overrated. I have just never understood the fuss.

Lassana Diarra – is this the same Diarra that that was brushed aside when we beat Portsmouth 6-0? Diarra is good but not world class by a long-shot. There are at least two French holding midfielder’s who are better.

Melo – good WC but has been dreadful in Serie A. I think he was voted something like ‘worst new signing’ last season following his move to Fiorentina.

Mascherano – IMO a very good DM. Reads the game well and he is like a brick wall. Not a great passer by any stretch but not as bad as people think.

Lol, De Jong is the only player one-dimensional enough to be called a DM.

A DM does not mean that you solely tackle and are awful with the ball at your feet.

These DMs are all comfortably better than De Jong.

Shweinsteiger
Cambiasso
De Rossi
Moussa Sissoko
Mohamed Sissoko
Alonso
Mascherano
Busquets
Diarra
Pirlo
Essien
Javi martinez

Don't understand the fascination with Mascherano, I think de Jongs the better player. Pirlo a defensive mid? he couldn't tackle up a fishing rod. He's a deep lying playmaker. De Rossi is more box to box and Schweinsteiger was a deep lying play maker for Germany and Munich.De Jong is a fantastic asset, only when you need him though, there really is no need to play him against 'lesser' opposition who hoof the ball as the midfield is bypassed, although saying that you need a player in there to pick up the second balls I.E. Gaz Baz(who to me always well against better opposition). Against teams who pass through midfield he is priceless, his reading of the game is exceptional and he's improved other aspects of his game since last season but I wouldn't say he was the best... yet.

I love De Jong but he isn't in Essien's league

To be fair on that i cant really name another CM in any posistion that is in the same league as Essien, absolute beast of a player and would be a first teamer in any team

I am about to rush off so cannot respond in full. Diaby does not play DM. Hence why Song and Denislon play as DM. He is nota DM, mate.

Toulalon is miles betterthan Duiarra
Diaby rotates with Song (who is more of a CB). Denilson has never played a game at DM in his career. Have you seen the guy?

Toulalon is shit imo.

I accept other people's opinions. For example, the quality of the player. However, you are factually incorrect about Diaby's position. I recently left the pub where I was with a number of colleagues, four of them being Arsenal fans. Each one said you were wrong. Diaby is not a DM. It's not even a debate. It's a fact. BTW Song is first choice and his replacement is Denilson.

As for Toulalon it is an opinion. I think you are wrong though

We need players like him though! our team is top end heavy which leaves defense exposed.

IMO very close to de Jong, masch is faster but de Jong is better at tackling and splitting up the play , I seem to remember masch playing his player in to trouble from time to time de Jong never does that.

Just for the note last season Mascherano had the most successful passes ion the league (1.5x as many as De Jong) and made the most tackles in the league (2x as many as de jong)

Mascherano is in a different league to De Jong
