Timothy Dalton.
Had the correct look (as described in the books), the correct demeanour (as described in the books) and the correct personality (as described in the books).
I don't even acknowledge Roger "Simon Templar" Moore as being Bond. They're more like parody films.
Brosnan comes close but his tenure is spoiled by the appalling scripts and plots ("I thought Christmas only came once a year" *gag*)
Connery certainly has the suaveness down, Lazenby only did one film, so you can't really judge although he did star in the one Bond film I feel really captured the spirit of the books, Craig just seems more like James Bland than Bond, though I did enjoy Casino Royale and Skyfall.
Personally I believe there are two "lists" in regards to who is the best Bond; who's to most accurate portrayal and which is the more entertaining to watch on the screen. In my view it's:
Most accurate
1. Dalton
2. Connery
3. Brosnan/Craig
4. Lazneby
5. Moore
Most entertaining
1. Connery
2. Dalton
3. Craig
4. Brosnan
5. Lazenby
6. Moore
