Best James Bond actor?

Roger Moore for his one liners and exquisite taste in watches!!!

Pretty much this, his almost comical portrayal of Bond is one of the main reasons I love Bond more than some other soulless action flicks *cough bourne cough*

His 'Bond' was very much the precursor to the modern one.

I think the producers got a bit worried about that version, which I thought was accurate, and so discarded it.

The big fooking wimps.

It was indeed. But those two films stand up a lot better 25 years later than most of the Bond films do. And Dalton also had my favourite Bond moment when you can clearly lipread him saying "For fuck's sake" in the Living Daylights.

I did enjoy his comedic portrayal of Bond but for comedy nothing beats the scene with Brosnan and Halle Berry on the beach. The one where she comes out of the sea in her bikini and he's on the beach and with his binoculars and he says he's an ornithologist, she looks down at his crotch and says "that's a bit of a mouthful". Doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Interestingly (to me anyway) the James Bond character was named after a famous ornithologist.

Timothy Dalton.

Had the correct look (as described in the books), the correct demeanour (as described in the books) and the correct personality (as described in the books).

I don't even acknowledge Roger "Simon Templar" Moore as being Bond. They're more like parody films.

Brosnan comes close but his tenure is spoiled by the appalling scripts and plots ("I thought Christmas only came once a year" *gag*)
Connery certainly has the suaveness down, Lazenby only did one film, so you can't really judge although he did star in the one Bond film I feel really captured the spirit of the books, Craig just seems more like James Bland than Bond, though I did enjoy Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Personally I believe there are two "lists" in regards to who is the best Bond; who's to most accurate portrayal and which is the more entertaining to watch on the screen. In my view it's:

Most accurate
1. Dalton
2. Connery
3. Brosnan/Craig
4. Lazneby
5. Moore

Most entertaining
1. Connery
2. Dalton
3. Craig
4. Brosnan
5. Lazenby
6. Moore

If you want interesting snippets, Fleming lived in east Kent - you can go and see his old house in St Margaret's Bay (mum-in-law nearly bought it some years back) and many of the books are set there. The 007 tag came from what was, and still is, the number of London to Dover coach. 008 goes to Folkestone - now National Express services.
