Best Music Albums of 2014...... bluemoons choice.

Future Islands - Singles
Wild Beasts - Present Tense

...the rest this year haven't really left any lasting impressions on me. I'll have a listen to some of the suggestions on here to see if my opinion is likely to change.

Royal Blood

Havnt hear anything that good in ages. listen to it all the time.

Storytone - Neil Young

I love Uncle Neil. This is an acquired taste I suppose, but the 'gramophone' way it's recorded is brilliant imo. Which version have you got or have you got the deluxe?

My three -

Lonely the Brave
- The Day's War.
Augustines - Augustines.
Ben Howard - I Forget Where We Were.

Opeth - pale communion
Bjorn Riis - Lullabies in a car crash ( move over Floyd)
Tim Bowness - abandoned dance hall days
Tin Spirits - Scorch ( Xtc meets 1980s King Crimson)

Is the Opeth album produced by Steve Wilson?

I've been wondering about giving it a listen.
It feels like a natural partner to The Raven that refused to sing. Steven Wilson is all over this record. I love it.

Here's a great tool for you guys; online spreadsheet of published best of year lists - NME, Rough Trade, FACT, etc.

It's a list of everything I didn't get round to this year; The War On Drugs, Parkuat Courts, Sun kil moon, Swans, etc. Jenny Hval/Susannah, Neneh Cherry, Spoon,, Beck, Angel Olssen, Manics, Leonard Cohen. Haven't even got round to Grouper, dear god.

My no1 is probably Dorian Concept, which has got absolutely no recognition anywhere :/

Honorables include
Future Islands
Mac De Marco,
The Bug
Todd Terje (not really for the album but he's just so flippin' awesome anyway),
Popcaan,
Andy Stott,
Robyn/Royksopp
Shabazz Palaces
Arca
Objekt
Yelle
Loscil's new one is mesmerizing.
Metronomy (again not really this album, I've just been caning The English Riviera)
and the first three tracks of the Aphex Twin disc.

I'd stick more real music in there but I have a massive backlog of probable contenders. Sleater-Kinney box set is the best reissue, anyway.

No one is interested in my drone/sound collage picks, I'm sure.

Part of me was thinking this thread was an attempt to get MCFC BOB out of the woodwork...

Anyway I liked the new Beck and Death From Above 1979 albums.

For those who have rated Royal Blood - you'd like DFA 1979.
