Best national anthem

Will never understand why players don't sing the national anthems. It think it would be interesting to see if there is a relationship between the success on the pitch and how players feel about their national anthem. I think it shows a togetherness from the very start. Surely its not a coincidence that the players from Uruguay were busting out of their chest with pride when their anthem is played and their brillaint performances on the pitch. Compare this to the barely moving lips of a few England players and their wimpering displays. Thought Mexico gave a rousing rendition also and they haven't done to bad either. Just a thought.

good point but i can't imagine that 80% of the England players are so anti royal. If thats the case then its a sad reflection on England as country. I think its down to not having pride to play for your country.

You don't necessarily have to be anti-royal or anti-government or whatever to not sing along to your national anthem at a sporting event. A lot of players who don't sing are probably still just as patriotic as anyone else but are just geeing themselves up internally, and I think that's fair enough.

As for the best national anthem, I think my favorite one that I've heard during the football going back a while might be the Swiss national anthem at the start of Euro 2008. I've tried YouTube-ing it but haven't found it - does anyone remember that?

Just in general, though, for me, Italy and Canada have the best anthems.

Liechtenstein, same tune.

Not all anthems have words, Spain's doesn't.

France ironically have by far the best anthem, if La Marseillaise doesn't get the adrenalin pumping nothing will.
