McEnroe was the greatest player I’ve ever seen. Pure poetry at the net. Sublime touch.
Lancashire pies are good……but the pies produced by Jon Thorner’s in Somerset are the best. It's a starter for a Holland's steak pudding (Lancashire only.)
That’s when Andy was “British“ and winning……when he lost he was “Scottish”. His grandfather, Roy Erskine played 9 matches for the mighty Stirling Albion FC between 1954-56Murray winning his first Wimbledon in 2013 (?)
watched it in holiday in Spain. The bar got busier as he got closer to the win and by the end it was rammed and you could hear a pin drop
the place erupted when he won the final point. Felt like you were witnessing something truely historic
Yes there is a City connection.. Ann Packer married another runner Robbie Brightwell who are the mum and dad of City players Ian and David , they also had another son Gary who was a runner too. We've had "best non-City football moments" but what are the most dramatic/moving things in sport away from football?
Two for an FOC are:
Wilson Whinneray scoring the last try of the NZ All Blacks tour at Cardiff Arms Park, early '60s maybe. Peter West commentating (remember him?) all excited saying Oh I hope he scores himself. And he did.
Other one is Ann Packer at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics coming off the last bend in the 400 m. and passing all the other runners to win the gold medal. She ran through the tape and into the arms of her fiance - I think there's a City connection there if i'm right.
I was at that Test but the first day only.Oddly, a beleaguered Steve Waugh getting his century v England off the last ball of the day in the New Year Sydney test in 2003. Incredible tension.
