Cannot imagine seeing a player as good as him again in my lifetime. Probably the best dribbler of the football ever, ability to pick a pass on a par with the very best such as David Silva, and arguably the best goalscorer of all time along with Ronaldo.

He just had everything as a player at his peak.

Its meant to be the best player you've seen live vs City, according to the thread title.
Messi has been the best player in the world over several years but there have been better performances by other players against us.
 
Hard to look past Messi at the Etihad. Mention for Henry at Highbury with that edge of box cracker. Reyes made his debut that day for them. Different times
 
Just someone different but Fabregas at the Emirates 2009 I think.

He had just come back from about 3 months out injured (I seem to recall) and he was just majestic without having to run around like a lunatic Just controlled absolutely everything from the centre of the pitch through supreme ability.
 
I'll chuck in Jurgen Klinsmann. Apart from the theatrics, he was a top player. Was superb for the Spuds in 94/95. Although he didn't get much of a chance to show it at our place that year ;-)

From memory he scored a hatrick, got an assist and won a penalty in one match against us.

Also context is everything that was against a City team managed by Pep in the Champions league. Other players who are getting put forward were against some City sides who were appalling where most players looked great. Crazy to say he wouldn’t come into the discussion.

My favourite player from an opposing team and still an all time hero. Taken way too soon.

Those harrowing afternoons against the genuinely great Liverpool sides! Painful though as you say we have more objectivity. Dalglish was so intelligent, strong, and though not especially quick, his speed of thought was as outstanding his touch and delivery. Outstanding in an excellent team that was ahead of its time.

So that Boxing Day win was very special especially after those annual drubbings. A lot of last ditch blocks and tackles and a little luck got us there.

Its the best player I have seen live thread.
The times I saw Messi he was not at his usual high standard.
There is no doubting that Messi was the best player in the world at that time and he's still going strong.
 
Not sure about individual performances but to be able to say one day to my kids that I’ve seen Messi, Ronaldo, Henry, Iniesta and so on live in flesh is pretty special.

Best I saw from Messi wasn’t against us, I saw him score 4 goals at the Nou Camp against Eibar without breaking a sweat.

Barely ran all game, 4 goals.

That was what I was talking about, for me Messi had a couple of his best perfomances (or let's say among my favorites) against City.
Also some said he never showed his best face and that's not true either given what I've said above and the vid I've uploaded and other matches mentioned by other people.
That doesn't mean that he had the best perfomance against City of every player City played against, thought I'm pretty sure that a couple of his games surely rank among those.

You don't consider the Vid that I've uploaded Messi playing at his usual high standard? (not meaning BTW that game was HIS best, thought I rank it pretty high).

I love that perfomance from him. It reminds me just of the top of my head of that 5 to 0 against Madrid where he didn't score, where he was brilliant, or his Gamper agaisnt Juve, or his match against Chelsea as a kid.I rank those type of perfomances above others that he scored galore. Maybe it's that.
