Best place to eat in Manchester

Croma on Wilbraham Rd in Chorlton is great as Bernabia says, similar kind of thing to Pizza Express but (I think) much better, and I am a fan of Pizza Express. Oca in Sale (Waterside Plaza) is similar also. Matt and Phred's (Oldham St/Tibb St) pizzas used to be amazing, not been for years though.

There are a couple of nice bars that do food in the Northern Quarter, Common on Edge St and Odd on Thomas St (and Odder on Oxford Rd), not table service like, but good food if the time is right. Other daytime places that are decent are Zorbas in the Arndale food market, Greek Cypriot, a real hidden gem. There's a great sandwich shop on Tibb St called Bread and Butter which is great for inner-city lunches. Of course Barburrito (Picadilly Gardens/Trafford Centre) is a forever popular local business, but standards have slipped since they opened I reckon, but it's still pretty cool.

More serious options for the evening times are Negresco on Deansgate and Dimitris just down the road. Negresco is kinda new wave Italian/French with great steak at reasonable prices, just avoid the pizza as it sucks. Dimitris is a very well esablished Greek tapas place with a fine reputation, prices bordering inexpensive.

For Oriental style, Tai Wu is brilliant, and Moso Moso is also good (opposite ends of Oxford Rd) although Tai Wu wins by a mile (ask for the Chinese menu, it's cheaper!!). Red Chilli on Portland St is a good place too, they do a great spicy broth dish where you kinda poach your meat, fantastic.

All the ones mentioned are pretty great so far, I loved Pau Brasil, doesn't get much better than all you can eat meat, but lay of the Caiprinhas, as I did not, and left my nineteen portions of bacon wrapped chicken and steak halfway down lever st on the way home :(

For curries, Shimila Pinks (soon to be, if not already, in Spinningfields) is superb, but Gordon Ramsey's favourite curry house is in Rusholme, but I've never been, it's called Spicy Hut! I know the one, had always given it a miss, but apparently, it's the tits.

Finally my two top tips, but only if you like Spanish food, are Evuna on Deansgate, which does top quality red wine and very good tapas, and the nearby El Rincon which is the most off the beaten track place in Manchester, "Harder to find than a Spaniard in La Tasca" as one review says, it's owned by a former Stockport County player, a Spanish lad, so the walls are all decked out with loads of footy memorabilia, but it's not a footy themed place either, it's very nice. I've been once, it was very reasonable and the food was excellent. Good beers too, and wine for the lady.

Sorry that's a bit of a ramble, I've bolded the place names in case no-one could be bothered to read it! I am wondering now me and my girlfriend always seem to go to Nandos and Gourmet Burger Kitchen when we go out to eat. I need to follow my own advice.

Phew.

El Rincon..

Best Tapas around, great atmosphere, generaly good place! Just at back of Deansgate. I miss it!!! Sometimes get the odd footballer in there, the owner is footy mad. Old shirts and pictures hanging on the walls...

Well worth a try if you havent been before.

All depends what you want? Wagamamas great for informal Jap/Thai stuff, as is Tampopo.
Pau Brasil is great, food is FAR from boring as someone else suggested it might be. But, it IS a veggie's nightmare.
El Rincon best tapas in town. Croma has limited menu, but what they do they do great. And it is classy for a low price.
Samsi is amazingly authentic Japanese. (It ain't all sushi!)
Anyone tried the Brazillian food stall in the Arndale Food Market? Fine for a quick lunch, (and Elano was there bit ago.)
The Knott Bar does fantastic food too.

The sushi carousel bar in the Arndale food market is also tops.

If you're over at the quays then Lime is good.

its in Didsbury - so out a bit - but Jem&I is without doubt the best food I ever eaten. North West restaurant of the Year again. Has got some Michelin award. Head chef Ric is a blue. Presentation was at COMs.
Not cheap, but £80 get you a quality scran and drinks for 2

Thats got to be one of the longest established restaurants in town? Always seems to have been there. But, still never tried it. You just never think of it, till you see it having a pint in Tom's Chop House. (And how up it's own arse has that place gotten nowadays?)

I agree about the previous comments about croma, really good value for money but they just need to put more on their menu.
