Inspired by @MillsyTheMosher's thread asking who our greatest ever player has been. I think - as much as it's an interesting and great discussion to have - I'm more interested in finding out who everyone thinks our best player was between (roughly) our League Cup win in 1976 and the Sheikh's takeover.
Because it's easy to debate over names like Colin Bell, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, etc. A consensus has definitely formed on who our best 10 players have been. But from the late 70s through to the late 2000s, hundreds of players passed through the doors of Maine Road and the City of Manchester Stadium, and I'd argue it's harder to form a consensus over who was the best of them all.
Shaun Wright-Phillips, Neil McNab, Ali Benarbia, Uwe Rosler, Giorgi Kinkladze, Tony Coton, Richard Dunne, Paul Power? There's definitely dozens of others I've not listed. But who do you think had the highest peak in the years when things weren't going so well for City? Who really made it worth it during the Swales years, or when John Wardle had to put his own money into the club to save us?
