Best playmaker ever?

In terms of pure ability to create chances for others, de Bruyne is the best I've ever seen. There have been better overall attacking midfielders but that guy can spot passes nobody else could without even looking and then has an infinite variety of techniques to pull them off in any situation and with either foot.

Seeing as they did it to perfection on pitches that were like ploughed fields, ice rinks or or swamps at times then t has to be

Cryuff
Platini
Pirlo

Honourobable mentions to zico, maradona (as he was a forward more) and Riviera

Xavi, iniesta messi etc play on billiad board flat, heated pitches with tackles hadly even allowed, but if you ar elooking at modern day it is

Stll Pirlo with Xavi and KDB

No Zidane? Made the game look effortless and he could certainly mix it up with a head butt if required.

Because post Bordeaux where he was a star, Zindane had maybe 2-3 decent seasons while in italy and spain out of 10, but gets hyped up because of the french national teams dominance at the time in my opinion

Player wouldn't make my top 20 best midfielders ever list

Since the 80’s I’d go for a top 10 of, with the top 3 nailed on, the rest in no particular order
1 - Maradona
2 - Messi
3 - Zidane
4 - Prosinecki
5 - Ronaldinho
6 - Dalglish
7 - Platini
8 - Silva
9 - Michael Laudrup
10 - KDB

Gutted I’ve left Ali B (& Gazza) out of that list

Prosinecki’s a great shout, a wonderful player who could make things happen out of nothing, up there with Zidane, Maradona and Messi for me.

Oh and I’d have to put Zola up there too !

In terms of controlling the tempo, dictating a game Silva would be right up there in the last 20 years. Modric, Xavi & Inesta are or have been amazing play makers.

The best deep lying playmaker was Luca Modric. And he’s underrated n’all despite the acolades he does get. I think he was an absolutely wonderful player.

The best attacking midfield playmaker was Andres Iniesta. Another, despite the acolades, was underrated. Another absolutely wonderful player.

Both these players suffered because of the brilliance of their teammates CRonaldo and Messi, but as playmakers these two are the greatest for me. Both did it for their international teams without CRonaldo and Messi n’all so it’s want just because they were playing with the world’s best goalscorers.

In any other era, if there was no CRonaldo and Messi, these two would have been the best two players in the world. Without Modric and Iniesta, neither Madrid nor Barça would have won what they did when these two were in their prime.

Its really difficult to choose just one , as there have been so many talented playmakers in history with different playing style.

Maradona definitely can't be ignored , but can you ignore Cruyff ? Pirlo ? Zidane ? Platini ? Xavi ? Messi ? and if i'm going to say Messi , di Stefano also deserves a mention for setting up Puscas for so many goals .Can you really just pick one player ?

For me is strictly based on prefrence i'd have to say 1 Maradona , 2 Cruyff , 3 Xavi
