Best speech in a film

Monologue would be telling a long story that doesn't necessary have a point whereas a speech generally has a point or a goal to it

I could class Red in shawshank redemeption as a speech, because he is trying to get parolled wheres as the scene in jaws is story, a bit of history
Are you sure Red's looking for parole in his third and final interview with the prison board? He doesn't "give a shit".

Quint's speech in Jaws does have a point; they're in the midst of an ongoing spat with a shark.

Beyond that, I'm gonna go with the dictionary definition.

Of course he wants parole. He is just sick of the side show of begging for it. At that point in his life he is done jumping through hoops

The only point I can see Quint is trying to make is sharks are scary. Which they already know. Not the same thing

I'd never heard that because I never saw the film, I thought the film was all about brass band music and i couldn't be arsed with that....... but

Stick that speech in the Politics forum and watch the fireworks. Every word he said was and is true. What a great speech.

It's a great film, partly a romance, partly a commentary on the changes in mining communities, and Postlethwaite's speech is the one I thought of when I saw the thread title.
