Best war films

I’ve not seen the remake of this from 2022, I’ve looked on YouTube but the only version I can find is in German:(
It is German with English subtitles unless you watch on Netflix where you can have it dubbed I think.

I would watch the one in German and do it with subtitles. Realism and all that.

Absolute masterpiece of a film that is. Should have won the Oscar for best international film
Agree
I can’t find it with subtitles either
It was on Netflix. Its probably not available anywhere if not on there. Its a fantastic film.

I've been to the Vemork plant in Rjukan during winter when I was over in Norway ice climbing a few years back. How the team managed to make those mission a success in such harsh conditions can never be overstated.
Yes. This is what i mean about you don't need a fictional plot. The retelling of this story as it happened makes for a fantastic film.

You would even think the location and climbing involved was far fetched but it is what it is. An incredible mission that was carried out successfully.

Very little in the way of 'action' but absolutely love The Man who Never Was - the true story of the allied deception to fool the Germans about the D-Day landings using a dead body loaded with false documents washing up on a beach in Spain - has been remade recently (not a patch on the original imho) as Operation Mincemeat

Also no mention so far of The Longest Day or The Yangtse Incident

The Battle Of Britain has a host of stars, and in the main is steeped in truth, especially when Churchill visits RAF Uxbridge, on 15th September 1940.

This is when he's imformed that, as a nation every aircraft we have is fully deployed, and we have zero reserves.

That date was the pivotal date in the Battle Of Britain, and we as a nation still remember "RAF Day" on the 15th September.

Laurance Olivier is great as Sir Hugh Dowding, with Michael Caine, Robert Shaw (Jaws), Christopher Plummer, and many more.

The director is Guy Hamilton of James Bond Goldfinger fame, and it has a fantastic musical score.

Its a great film and I can watch it over and over.

.

The Sea Wolves is a good watch especially as the wonderful Barbara Kellerman is in it. Based on a true story. You can bet that the original plan was formed on a Friday evening after a few guys have been enjoying some light refreshments :-)

What kind of outdoorsman doesn’t understand FMJ? Do you have a peashooter under your bed?!
I finally worked out what he was trying to say just couldn’t quite wrap my head around why he couldn’t just write the title, why abbreviate a three word fucking title ….. ffs :)

I forgot Anthropoid . Maybe biased because Cillian Murphy is the lead . Those eyes get me every time ....
