Best way to learn a language?

My wife swears by Michel Thomas (no, not that one) who has somewhat idiosyncratic methods. I'm a bit sceptical but she speaks better Italian and Spanish than me so what the fuck do I know?

Your wife speaks sense. I can't recommend the Michel Thomas cd's highly enough, you just have to get past his French accent and sloppy tongue.

Hay, i'm wanting to learn spanish over the summer, can anyone give me any tips on the easiest way to learn a language?

Cheers Ste.

By far the best is to spend time in that country, but night school, books and linguistics media are a good alternative.

Spanish films, radio etc. You pick up language from them very quick! Start having conversations with your mate in Spanish and build the conversation up for a longer period of time over time :) A trip to Spain would help too

Its good to read so you understand their grammar and it will help your vocabulary expand. Living in the country will help, as you are forced to use it every day and in every human interaction and then finally yes, tv, movies do help to improve your spanish "ear".

I lived in Mexico for 4 years and while I can speak to pretty much anyone about anything in spanish, there are some days when I feel like Carlos Tevez does with english!!! ;-)

French came easier to me because I had the grammar and vocabulary down first. And when my friend who was taking spanish lessons visited me in Mexico he felt like his teacher had done him a disservice as he was so used to speaking super slow, and couldn't understand a word anyone said to him.

Good luck! The more languages or words you have, the richer your life will be.
