Thats superb watching that amount rise under the 29.00..

Cant believe no one in betfair didnt pull the plug on the betting during the race, something was clearly wrong for a good 2mins..

But like you said if it was a customer with £600 mill in his account (hard to believe ) he should of faced the music!

the 2 key points r
1. exceeded exposure limit(not account balance)
2. it was a customer

it would be alot easier if it was betfair to claim palpable error.

if the layer had placed the lay for 2k at 29s u can be sure they would have paid out.
the layer should lose his balance regardless of how much it is and put back into racing.

It can't have been a customer pal. Even the hedge funds who are rumoured to play Betfair wouldn't have 600 mill sloshing around. There's insufficient liquidity to make that kind of balance work efficiently.

i agree it cant be a customer, why not just admit it and claim palpable error????
now they have said its a customer they are digging themselves a bigger hole?????

They'll have the sharpest legal minds on retainer for situations like this and the lawyers must tell them what statement to issue. All the usual threats about taking legal action and closing accounts are being posted on the BF forum from disgruntled "winners" but it'll all blow over soon.

If you have a virtual monopoly you can do what you like I guess

Who are Betfair? and why do they have a virtual monopoly?

There are loads of high st bookies, don't they all have on-line versions too?

betfair is people betting wiv each other and betfair take commission on winning bets, u tend to get better odds on betfair then u do on the high street.

I see so Betfair gives people better odds but are seen as being bent.

There has never been a poor bookie just poor punters.

I'm involved with this, to the tune of a potential £500 win. Been on racing forums all day, be very interesting to see how it pans out.

I will guess the regular bookies will now try and get back some customers after this mess up by Betfair. Paddy Power are always quick with the ads slating something that has happend at the time. I guess all the marketing people at the major retailer bookies will be coming up with a add to get punters back.
