I'm 17, college dropout, did well in my GCSE's but couldn't afford to carry on in college, I currently work full time in a bank and though the moneys decent £250 a week I fucking hate it, does anybody have any other suggestions of a career to try and get into, I've got an NVQ in sports and also the first few football coaching badges, certificates

Pretty much exactly the same situation i was in at that time.. i started as apprentice QS doing day release at Uni/College (caus i wanted to get into construction).. with that 5 years experience and qualifications had plenty opportunities at 21.. Anyway, since 21 I first moved to Romania (hence the name), worked in Middle East, Thailand and now im currently enjoying life settling down in Cambodia!! all the time working on bigger and better things :)

My advice... get into construction now (work and study) and then look abroad!!! worked for me!

I would have possibly put it slightly more tactfully than gsc but the banking industry is a very good one to be in.

If you're unhappy in your present position are there no opportunities within the bank which you could do some kind of training and progress your career?

Join the apostrophe police, there's loads of 'em on here. Sorry. Get a trade you can travel with. Office work is all well and good but they're 10 a penny, call centres are the new factories, as previously advised construction work pays better, if you're not good with your hands think about something like Quantity Surveyor. Study now because you won't want to do it when you're older and working life is a loooooooooooong time.

Stay in the job don't blow all your money on beer/drugs and get some money saved up for the future. Then do some evening classes in what ever the hell you fancy trying in the future. Seriously jobs are hard to come by and nine times out of ten unless its something you really love doing you're going to hate your job or find it very grinding. Just stick at it eventually you'll be able to get in to something you really like and it will help you if you've had a job somewhere like a bank for a while as it looks good on your CV.

Here's one for you to help with the grind set yourself a goal. Maybe save up £10,000 so you can go on a brilliant holiday back packing across south America for a month or something mad like that. If you're working just for the sake of it or to get smashed at the weekend it will grind like fuck but if you're working towards something it will go so much easier.

It's temp work here and unfortunately there isn't any oppertunities for progression as I missed the cut for permanent, the moneys great but I would rather be doing something I enjoy allthough I know I'm lucky to have a job!
