Big final day of the transfer window

I remember how we fucked up last January's transfer window,

Instead of bringing in a quality central midfielder, we signed Vieira.

And missed out on Champions League football by just one result...

Let's hope they learn from that and ensure we have adequate cover for the run-in.

We've already fucked it up imo.

No way should we be scrabbling about on deadline day, can't believe we are going into the most important run-in in recent history with a light squad when we are the richest club in the world.

Utter madness.

Unless Michael Johnson and someone like Assulin are likely to get fit and be available from next week, we need several players as, what these cup games have shown us in my opinion is that our squad is thread bare when it comes to quality.
having said that, when you start with Jo, it's like starting any game with 10 players, but, we've posed very little threat lately and, now that Ade and RSC have gone, we have only SWP to bring in and he's been useless this season, so we can't expect much out of him. AJ injured for 3 months leaves us very very short.
As the season goes on and the cup games progress, we will fall by the wayside if we have to rely on Jo, Vieira, and Milner. They are either crap, one paced, predictable - perm any that you want. Also, add in a pedestrian Barry, Boateng and Kolarov;when it starts to go wrong, do you think Yaya will put in a shift? I don't.
I fear the worst if we don't get a couple in today - preferably with electric pace, as we haven't got any, apart from Yaya's bursts.

expect a bid late bid for guteares err guitearez err gterrrarez? f---k it the newcastle winger?
mentioned this on transfer thread tolmie's hairdoo ruled it out saying work permit required so if we are to bring someone in it is going to be a british player...

Or a player with an EU passport, they don't need work permits.

Guitieres wouldn't get in any top 6 side, never mind top 4. He's a winger with no pace and in my opinion would be a very bad signing.
Let's not miss out on our top 4 target from this position - we're points in credit so go for it now with some pace.
I'd like Torres , but pace to service what we already have would be better/better use of funds imho.

was thinking about this as well who said lightening cant strike twice,i said on the transfer thread that as a club you should always be looking to improve, instead of standing still, last jan cost us top 4,johnson's injury highlights that really are squad has'nt got the depth we think it does who plays while adam is out jo....

People keep stating how strong a squad we have... but as things stand now, we're struggling to put out an 18 man squad for the game at Brum on Wednesday.

We lost out on Champions League football last season for the sake of one additional signing, and I fear we may be repeating that mistake.

Irrespective of Adam Johnson's injury, we should have had at least a couple more squad players in...just in case.

Even loan deals such as Bentley, Muntari and O'Hara would have strengthened us.

Teams don't loan their players out to sides that will keep the players on the bench as cover, that's not the point in a loan.

If we are going to bring in a short term signing to replace AJ it really should be someone who is still eligible for the Europa League & FA Cup. Not sure who that leaves that might be available.

Don't give a flying fuck about the cups, Chumps league is all that matters.

I'd take Jarvis. I hesitate to say it but we could do a lot worse than recalling Bellamy, if that's possible.
Personally, seeing how thread bare we are, I'd get both if it's possible.

Chris Bevan: reports: "Lots of rumours surrounding possible Man City bids for wingers (Hulk, Matt Jarvis and Santi Cazorla to name but three) today following Adam Johnson's injury, but I'm told the chances of Roberto Mancini making a late splash in the transfer market are "hugely slim". In terms of players leaving Eastlands, Shaun Wright-Phillips was linked with Bolton and Fulham before Johnson was sidelined but City have not received any bids for him yet anyway.

I agree, but we need to ease the workload on the starting 11 by being able to rotate in the cups. If we stay in the cups we'll be playing a lot of matches in April & May. Whoever we bring in to replace AJ is unlikely to be a starter in the league matches, more of an impact sub. So they need to earn their corn in the cups.

Maybe Hamburg will let us have Elia on loan till the summer with an option to buy then. They aren't going to play him are they? They get a bit of cash and we cover his wages too. Job done.

That Oxade-Chamberlain bloke from Southampton would be a good shout, and a bargain compared to most people. Proven in English football (Although not in the top flight.)

Cup tied for the FA, but not for Europe.
