dont know the year yet.

hope its not the 81 cup final, its too early in the morning to get upset by a football match

i am so sad, i was off my chair and cheering when the equaliser went in.

Notice the Rags at it as ever? Black armbands at Ipswich - 25th anniversary of Munchen 58 so this was a "mark of respect" - marketing exercise more like. Reminds me of Terry in Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads as he refers to his army service, clutches his side with a grimace then says " I never like to talk about it " ha ha ha !!

One thing they didn't show here, possibly because it may have featured on the following Friday's "Kick Off" was an interview with Swales which I distinctly remember where he talked about that game and whether we would get sucked into a relegation fight.

He flatly refused to accept that we were in danger of going down and when it was put to him about members of the crowd being unhappy about the signing of David Cross he responded by arrogantly and dismissively saying (and I paraphrase) that they were "probably the same people who moaned that we needed a new striker".

Quite possibly so, but that doesn't mean they have to be happy about signing a cart-horse like that.

He really was an absurd person. The fact he ran our club for nearly a quarter of a century tells you all you need to know about why we became a national joke.

One other thing I remember about my first visit to the Kippax was the Falklands related songs that were directed towards Ricky Villa (not sure if Ardiles was playing). I was at the game with my (rag) dad and he said he didn't think it was very fair, and he was right, of course. To think, some 30 years later we have three Argentines in our squad two of whom have iconic status within the club, which the other could have had if events had taken a different turn.

Bewildering change for us as a club in those three decades really. I'm sure it would blow our former Chairman's mind.

Was a Swales fan until I learned how to read a set of accounts and that Summer got my paper to read we were going to sign this & that major player - I could see that there was no way we could so stopped believing his bollox from then on.

Arguably all 3 do.
