Quite possibly so, but that doesn't mean they have to be happy about signing a cart-horse like that.
He really was an absurd person. The fact he ran our club for nearly a quarter of a century tells you all you need to know about why we became a national joke.
One other thing I remember about my first visit to the Kippax was the Falklands related songs that were directed towards Ricky Villa (not sure if Ardiles was playing). I was at the game with my (rag) dad and he said he didn't think it was very fair, and he was right, of course. To think, some 30 years later we have three Argentines in our squad two of whom have iconic status within the club, which the other could have had if events had taken a different turn.
Bewildering change for us as a club in those three decades really. I'm sure it would blow our former Chairman's mind.
