I think that's refreshingly honest, and I'm sure most footballers think the same. He clearly thinks footballers are twats, and he's probably right.

Agreed. I'd prefer to listen to someone like that than Wayne "Once a blue, always a blue", "I'm an honest player who never dives" Rooney. I find it refreshing rather than the usual cliche soundbites, PR speak and lies that alot of footballers come out with.

IMO Nedum, De Jong and Ireland are the 3 for me who play for more than just the money.

Ireland isn't having a great time, but when he was playing he definetely has the club in his heart.

It isn't about loving the club or playing for the shirt or kissing badges. He admits not liking football. He's so shallow he refuses to play for France but has no problem taking advantage of the relative security of growing up there. He's a clown of the highest order.
Say what you like about footballers and money but most of them enjoy the sport and are happy to play for the country where they were raised, if given the opportunity.
