Was at a showing of Spirit of 58, a documentary about Northern Ireland at world cup and Peter McPartland talked about Billy, how he should have gone to Sweden but Peter Doherty didn't pick him. Have checked his wiki pageBilly seems to have good scoring record for City and wondered if anyone had any more info on him as can't remember hearing of him until tonight

Knew Billy later on in his lifetime, was a really smashing bloke and always spoke very highly of his time at City and would always stop me to ask how they were playing when i would come back from the games. He lived in our hometown Barrow in Furness for the later years of his life but sadly passed away a few years ago. RIP Billy never forgotten mate.

the thing that i remember most is the abuse from the Kippax, no idea why. Didnt seem to bother him .

A great header of the ball, he used to go for anything high or low. Remember one match where he finished up with his head gashed and finished up with his noggin wrapped up like a Mummy, preceded Butcher's heroics by about 30 years.

Billy McAdams (with an "s") scored in ten consecutive Div One games for City in 1957 or 1958. He was a pretty good striker.he seemed to alternate with Joe Hayes and Johnny Hart in the mid-50s but never played in our two finals of that era.

If that's right that must be some sort of record?
Gonna do some digging on this player,as I've never heard of him ,but with goal scoring ability such as this, perhaps he needs to be more widely spoke of...ten goals in ten consecutive games.?.wow

It was season 1957/58 (same as Munich air disaster) that McAdams scored in ten games on the bounce..he finished up with 19 goals in 28 games..he was a regular for City up until the 1959/60 season when he hit 21 goals in 30 games
..interesting that a certain Mr Law started featuring for City at the very end of this season, and by the start of 1960/61
McAdams was gone, and Law came into his own..culminating in the famous 'typical City ' debacle at Luton...where Denis did it..6 times..and again, but still lost...that's another story..
Has any other City striker scored 10 games on the bounce I wonder like McAdams?

As for City goal-scorers, there was one who scored five goals in each of two consecutive games for City. Can any bright spark tell me who he was?

Right, since you lot have no idea, or think I'm making it up, the answer is Jimmy Currier, who scored five in our 9-1 home win over Rochdale, then five more in the return fixture the following week when we won 6-1 at Rochdale - both in January 1941.
OK, it was the wartime League, but was in a League match, though (I admit) as wartime football not considered first-class. Currier scored 84 goals for City in 113 wartime League & Cup matches.
It can be found in City's records, so it's not some gash kickabout. So this is not a trick question........ I'm looking forward to Aguero repeating this feat in City's next two games.

Fuck sake Swifty the war was on.

Yes, xgorton, I know my history and am aware that WW2 was then in full swing (at least for us, as the Yanks didn't join for another 11 months). With all due respect, I don't see why the war being on had much to do with it, as I have conceded that it was a wartime league game and does not count in records.

Nevertheless, it happened, and was a pretty impressive feat. Currier never played after the war.

I reckon it's a fair question. You are at liberty to disagree. As Voltaire (allegedly) said, "I may disagree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it".

I don't disagree Swifty it's just that I spent time looking through our records but forgot about us playing in the war years,no probs mate and a good spot.

Very civil of you. What a nice change from all those replies in some posts calling other Bluemooners a **** or a ******* ****.

If you're interested in wartime games, City were at home to Stockport County on Dec 2nd 1939, during the so-called "phoney war", and conceded six goals, but did not lose. The result was a 6-6 draw. How many City fans know that? (Gary James will)
.
They don't make 'em like that any more.

Also that chap Currier again,he scored a total of 10 goals in 3 consecutive games end of April 1940.

You're really getting into this wartime stuff, aren't you?

A Currier fan club is on the horizon
