Tragic news to hear that this young player has died following a collision with a wall next to a pitch.

Ex-Arsenal youth striker dies after injury during game - https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq5jye4v64no

It just shouldn't happen, especially seeing as there was a close escape at Bath City a few years ago. Something needs to be done - or it WILL happen again.

A terrible accident
It looks like his injuries happened when he collided with a wall and I'm surprised that there's not been many, many more injuries sustained by colliding with pitch surrounds
I was talking to a big rugby league fan earlier this week who was saying that the grand final may be moved from OT to the Etihad
One of the major reasons was player safety due to the camber of the pitch at the swamp

You can see the stadium here. How this is classed as safe enough to get a certificate is beyond me.

I think chances of this happening has increased in recent years, because of their being less going to ground (where maybe you'd go into the wall with your legs first) and more shielding, pushing, and upright physical battles for the ball. The safety requirements just aren't enough any more.

Awful news. How on earth can a non league club be allowed to have a brick wall around the perimeter. Disaster waiting to happen.
Should never have been allowed to happen especially in this day and age of health and safety.

A few years back in a 5 aside league I played in indoors a lad got pushed into the wall and cracked his head and died.
It’s just such a waste of a life and should never have been allowed .

Player got injured in similar circumstances in Northern Ireland few weeks ago. Paul Heatley playing for Carrick rangers against Bangor. He says he has been left traumatised by the incident. RIP Billy Vigar such sad news

Back when I was reffing in the Northern League you wouldn't believe how many clubs had stands within a couple of yards of the pitch. The worst being Tow Law. Brick wall basically 2 yards off the pitch.

Looking at those pictures it makes you wonder how their local council could issue a safety certificate to the club. Surely it would have occurred to someone that having a brick and/or concrete enclosure that close to the pitch is asking for trouble?

I know someone who got a pretty bad injury playing at Avro's ground (vestacare stadium) a while back by sliding into a similar concrete/brick wall they had there (not sure if it's still in situ). Luckily it was a leg injury and he made a full recovery.

Whole thing needs a serious review and fast!

RIP Billy.

And the risk is exacerbated with idiots like Robertson at Liverpool, deliberately pushing opponents into hoardings. This should always have been classed as dangerous play and punished accordingly.

Edit to add may the lad rest in peace. So sad that this has happened.
