Birmingham

The Great Western is great boozer. Actually walked along the canal from Birmingham to Wolverhampton during Covid in the summer of 2020 when the pubs were open and had a couple of pints of Holden’s Bitter in there at the end before getting the train back. Tasted amazing.

Bathams are quite an insular company with pretty low horizons I’d say. Know people who’ve dealt with both and they are both a bit weird to do business with I was told, especially Holden’s!
Some wonderful boozers and small/micro breweries in that part of the world mate.

I reside in prime Bathams land - a couple of the Bathams family live round the corner. They have a funny way of running their pubs, we have two on the doorstep. People tend to vote with their feet and avoid pubs with crap beer and landlords/ladies but Bathams persevere to attract the pub crawl brigade. Decent pint though if they get it right. Family are also big West Brom fans which also says a lot :)

Yes, despite what I said in my previous post, they are plainly very good brewers, producing a consistent product over a very long period, and they have well run wet-led pubs across their estate, in areas of the West Midlands that aren’t exactly gentrified. They don’t have any trouble pubs that I can think of, and that is a testament to them. They know what they are good at, and they stick to it.

My daughter lives in Moseley. Seems quite respectable.
Yeah it's got some lovely roads mate. That corner of the city can be really nice in parts, with a vibrant little nightlife scene (ish). Like all big cities though, you're only really half a mile away from being back in a massive shithole though, should you take a wrong turn into Sparkhill or Balsall Heath.
