Bit of Help For My Old Ma...

Try My Builder or Checkatrade sites. Trades guys are vetted and there's very often customers' reviews on site.
Who’s vetting them and to what level?

I think it’s still a lottery on those sites although I had to use MyBuilder recently to get my roof fixed as all the local ones were booked up for months. I probably got lucky as the guy from 20miles away who I gave the job to did “seem” to know what he was doing and had clearly done it before and it looks okay from the ground but I never got a receipt from him for the work. Time will tell if he did a proper job but I’d still use someone with an established business or independent recommendation in the future. The customer reviews on those sites could easily be family and mates btw.

Really resisted putting this on here, but I'm running out of options.

My Old Queen, who's 79, lives in manc and has been fleeced with cowboy roofers fixing her chimney in the past. I've only gotten involved as other family living closer than I are incompetent. Unfortunately, I'm super busy, unlike other fam members, and I'm the only one who takes her to the cem once a month, whatever the weather (IF my schedule allows it) to see my Brother. That's the example I work with, family-wise.

Basically, I'm stressing and asking if anyone knows any roofers (or is a roofer) that can fix her chimney/ roofing issues.

Please, if you can PM me, we can talk what we need to. I'd be grateful to put her stresses at ease.

Thanks.
This company may not be the cheapest but they have a great reputation:

My mother in law whose in her 80s now only uses builders that are are only approved by her local age concern charity. Think she found out about them via her library or council. I know first hand how these cowboys prey on elderly, Luckily the mrs rang her mum just as loft foam insulation company were trying to get her to pay £15000 to insulate her loft. Thankfully got intouch with family that were nearer and they ran off soon as the cops appeared.

I've just used My Builder to find a joiner for some doors in South Manchester. He started work yesterday and is excellent, so I would use My Builder again.

Next problem is finding a roofer to fix my mum's roof. She is 86, widow, and all my siblings aren't in a position to sort it out so it's down to me.

It's a proper stress, innit?

Had some good responses of the lads on here, though.

You know when you don't hold out much hope on things and then BM just comes to life?

My Ma's gonna be buzzing to get her roof sorted, if it happens!

Very hard to get a decent roofer nowadays who is interested in small jobs. It's all about the money. I've said previously, I'd been waiting months for someone to investigate water ingress coming inside my chimney.I gave up and clambered on top myself. Nearing 73 I aint no Chris Bonnington and it's didn't do me any favours. It appears to be failure in the flaunching around the pot. Eventually I managed to get a quote of £350 a few weeks before Christmas, I'm still waiting for him to turn up. The damp ain't doing my chest any good, along with the woodburning fraternity..

Hopefully, someone on here has gotten in touch with you as they have with me.

Proper lift in spirits for me thinking of my Ma.
