Is Yates's wine lodge still there?
There's a brace of them as the Market St north reopened after it's refurb in 2019. A much better shout is the spoons Velvet Coaster at south shore that's built on 3 levels with a central lift system that takes you to their roof garden. It even has a brace of indoor log burners for the winter months and a pleasure to sit around the fire with a dram or two of goodness.

The promenade in the pool has to be one of the finest in the UK and the council did a fantastic job with it's renevation. If you like cycling then the ride from Squires Gate to Clevelys is outstanding.

Speaking of Clevely's it's the Jewel in the North and always immaculatly turned out. Their wetherspoons is called the Jolly Tars with a large living room-style pub, huge fireplace, comfy leather sofas and a spacious terrace.
Next door to it is a KFC.

A great tip for those staying over for a few days is to buy a tram saver ticket that can be used from Squires Gate to Fleetwood. It's £12.50 for three days unlinited travel and £15 for an unbeatable seven days.

Would that be for a family ?

There’s people in Morecambe trying to get the illuminations up and running again. The work they’ve done rebuilding the prom has brought in a lot of people in the summer months but cross the road and it’s the same problem as Blackpool; run down or empty shops and pubs full of chavs. They ripped up the Frontierland many years ago and the the whole space is still sitting empty despite promises of retail parks etc. It’s a real shame because once the summer is over the town just dies again. And don’t even think about venturing into the West End!
I'd agree with this, went to Morecambe for a day with Mrs Moon in the spring.... lovely walk down the front but looked like Blackpool across the prom without all the arcades.

Think Blackpool's issues gained speed taking the quick money from stag/hen parties. Fri to Sunday morning would have been great in the tills but the other days dead.

I did find a nice place last time I went to Blackpool at the end of the North Pier. Quiet relaxed pint or two but generally if in that area St. Anne's is where we'd hang out.

Such a shame our local seaside towns are rundown.

No mate those are adult prices. Travel for all 5 - 15 year olds on any Blackpool Transport bus or tram is £6.50 for a 3 day saver or £7.50 for a seven day saver. A family ticket would be £11.50 for the day for up to two adults and 3 children. Children under 5 travel free.

Here we go

We can use it all day long and then have an evening meal in the Jolly Tar then maybe pop back to the Showboat for caberet and then finish off with a nightcap dram in the Velvet Coaster for little less than £3 with no traffic jams.

Whitby isn’t a bad place if the weather is good and the fish and chips are worth queuing for.

Saint Annes is quality but why not give Clevelys a try. Very nice seaside town and well turned out. The Thornton-Cleveleys area btw is famed for its accessible promenade and it's country park. The network of paths in the local Wyre Estuary Country Park are accessible to all and afford magnificent views of the estuary and River Wyre.

If you are planning on going to Blacky to see the lights and you like your fish and chips then i recommend Kays in Cleveleys. Better than Bispham kitchen or Harry Ramsdens.
Nice chippy when I visit the in-laws we always go Cleveleys kitchen then have a few in the Wings club

Glad someone still enjoys Blackpool because it lost its lustre many moons ago.it started with the getting fleeced by hawkers and charlatans wanting mucho money for having photos with Monkeys and Snakes and overpriced kiss me quick hats.

Then cam the stag do's and the promised casino gig which never materialised, now it's Stalybridge by the sea, but without the sea.

Apologies to anyone who lives in Stalybridge, and condolences ;)

A former work colleague of mine started his career in the Collector of Taxes in Blackpool. On his first day out without a more experienced colleague with him, he went to a house in the area and was met by a middle aged women, so he asked her if her husband was in, explaining where he was from. The name on his "to visit" list was a Mr. R. Dixon - occupation "Entertainer". The lady said that he was at work, and the assessment had been paid the day before.
My colleague asked where he worked, and she gave him a funny look, and merely replied "his first name is Reginald". He then had a "lightbulb" moment as the penny dropped, and they both burst out laughing. He never lived it down!

Last time I went to Morecambe watched dolphins in Marine land (mid sixties)

We used to take the kids to see the lights and go on the funfair. Have some chips and doughnuts on a Friday night. I think it was the October half-term we went, as a treat. Me and my wife never got Blackpool but took the kids for something to do. The last time we went we were driving home and my lad said ‘I like Blackpool but do we have to come again?’

Not been back in 20 years, no intention to go again.

I remember as a kid people used to say - jokingly - "Blackpool Hallucinations," and expect a laugh.

OH how I miss the subtle humour of the old days.

Been twice in recent years in the car and both times managed about 200 meters in 2 hours, turned round and gone straight home.
