Blocked left ear

Ive got it in my right ear atm that is causing pulsatile tinnitus. I can hear my heart beat really loudly in my ear. I am using olive oil drops and it seems to be improving. Last year I paid 60 quid to get them vacuumed but I thought it would be a one off not an annual fee.

Just had my left ear vacuumed out, £65 lighter now, unfortunately I can hear the wife again! Think it’s caused a bit of swelling so hopefully it will calm down as I have dull noise sensation in it at the momnet, if that doesn’t go away it may be a trip to the doctors, probably around 2028!

So you still ain't bricked the windows, kicked the door in and torched the gaff.

I assume you don't have any insurance.
Big mistake.

Rather Random this

But has anyone suffered a blocked ear Wax build up etc?

Feel like I'm pissed Balance wise.
Had anti biotics from GP, but not helped
Was wondering can the local GP use some suction thing to take it out?

Feels like I'm listening to people through a helmet !

Fair few people round here had it including myself, few of the later ones had it and turned out to be covid. Ear blocked along with cough, colda, weakness etc.

When it finally popped it was immense. One guy got his ear professionally rinsed out and it went

If you have pain, see your GP. It may be an infection.
If it's just a blocked stuffy (under water)feeling, book to have them micro suctioned.

I had been gradually losing some of my hearing. Because you get used to it, i just thought it was age. I found myself saying "pardon" more often. Noise in pubs was becoming a problem.
I never mess with cotton buds, but have tried Otex drops in the past. I think i overdid it once, because it made it worse. So once it settled down, i left my ears alone.

Skip forwards to earlier this year. I somehow managed to get water in both ears while having a shower.
When they didn't clear (that lovely "pop" )after the shower, i started researching the latest advice.
I watched a few Youtube videos of ear cleansing.....disgustingly addictive!

It seems GP surgeries don't do syringing anymore. So you are going to have it done privately.
Water Syringing doesn't always get everything out. But is tried and tested. Micro suction normally gets everything out.
Olive Oil only really works if done regular after a clean. It just helps the natural process, but doesn't do much for solid wax.

I booked a place in Ashton (£45 both ears), and was advised to use Medical Olive Oil for five days beforehand to soften the wax. It won't clear it, but will help the removal process.
I found the Olive Oil did have some effect, as there was some yellow/red wax on the cotton wool balls. But it didn't do anything to improve my hearing.

The micro suction process was painless, but it can be loud and have popping noises.
I went in deaf and came out superman hearing wise.
Jesus, what a difference! High pitched noises was the first thing. Then wind noise. Driving my car home was a nightmare. I could suddenly hear all the mechanical bits. I thought the thing was going to breakdown.
I got back 3D sound. In that i could tell where noises were coming from again. My surround sound system suddenly made sense!

I've decided to make it an annual event regardless if i need it or not. I'll treat it as an annual checkup.
If they are clear then great, if not then they will be cleared etc.

Had mine done a few weeks ago mate, all the docs do is refer you to the place that does it.

Were you sat next to the away fans on Tuesday?

Seriously though, it may not be a blocked ear and tbh, your GP can normally diagnose that straight away by sticking his little thing in your ear :-)

The fact GP prescribed anti biotics suggests he thought you had an ear infection rather than a blockage.

If it isn't that it could be the start of 1 of many inner ear conditions.
I know as I've been through years of tests and ended up with Meniere's which is crap.

Get back to GP if it doesn't clear up. The balance issue can be sorted with a series of head manouvres if it's related to particles on the ear drum. It's a bit unpleasant but sorts it out.

Don't just assume it's a blocked ear or ear infection if it doesn't clear up, because it probably won't be.

Good luck.

Try ear irrigation or earwax micro suction, your specialist otolaryngologist will advise which is best.
Had mine done a while back and cost me £65, if ear wax is your problem that will sort it out.
If not they should be able to diagnose and advise accordingly.
Most people are usually asked, when meeting someone for the first time what they do for a living. Imagine having to say you were a specialist otolaryngologist after been pulled over by plod to provide a specimen of breath.
