Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

I’ve put the above songs in a Spotify playlist.

Ta mate, just as a point of interest - that single version of Tammar’s ‘Frost Meter’ that you’ve included there is different to the album version.

The album version is a lot more polished and refined, and is at a different pace.

Ok, I’ve edited the playlist to include the album version instead.

Thanks for the playlist @Psychedelic Casual

It wasn't all my cup of tea - DJs mixing things doesn't appeal to me most of the time and "Sleighride / Blizzard" certainly didn't fire my enthusiasm. Also, I'm sorry to say that both "Frost Meter" and "Lying in the Snow" suffered from that weird British Indie "I'm going to sing so low in the mix that you won't have a clue what I'm going on about" thing.

However, I enjoyed the track by The Coral - some nice acoustics in there.

I also really enjoyed "Christmas Time Is Here". It's interesting that you say it makes you feel nostalgic and you'd imagine it's the same for a lot of people. I honestly can't ever remember hearing this before but you are bang on with the way it makes you feel. It's got that indescribable quality that gives you a fuzzy warm glow inside.

@Psychedelic Casual has already introduced me to The Asteroid No 4 this year through the album of the year thread (whatever else happens to that thread Rob as well as the just mentioned I've also "discovered" Midlake through it as well so it's done it's job for me) so hopes were high for this playlist.

And I'm not disappointed. It's kind of what I expected.

Sleighride/ Blizzard had a nice vibe and it's tempting to explore more although whether that is Andrew Wetherall or Timothy j Fairplay I should be exploring I'm not sure...

Easier then to concentrate on the rest.

The Coral are a band I can't claim to know much about but whenever I've heard them I've liked them. Thought their Coral Island a couple of years ago was great. Definitely a band I need to listen to more of but one of those with quite a back catalogue so not sure where to start.

It's probably the single version of the Tammar that I've listened to. No worries because I'm listening to the album right now so I'll get to the intended version as well. In contrast to Rob this sort of indie low-fi or whatever it is sort of sound is right up my street, I don't mind straining to listen. Echoes to me of Eyeless in Gaza who were pretty derided on the album review thread but I liked.

The Bees another good song and another band I'm going to explore more. I get where the vocals on this and the previous track might not be everyone's cup of tea but they are fine for me.

i Understand the sentiment of Christmas Time is Here but for that Christmassy feel I'll probably stick to the Choir of St David's Christmas Carols. When I'm not exploring the other three bands mentioned.

Think this is a good playlist for the time of year, and I quite enjoyed it. First song aside which didn't do anything for me, never seemed to get where it was going, and going.

Really enjoyed Frost Metre. Like the guitar harmonics on walking in the winter. Christmas Time is here a nice fitting ending to it.

Full credit on not just sticking your top 5 songs irrespective of timing and context, and actually thinking about a playlist you consider appropriate at this point. (says with self-awareness while about to do the same next).

Two songs from this playlist have made it onto our wider selection for tomorrow's listening set, which includes a build-up of years' worth of favourites and new surprises.

A nice playlist for the time of year.
Cannot see me visiting any of the artist again though.
Good choices though for the time of the year though.

Sorry it’s late, bit of a heavy head today!
thanks to @psychedelic Casual for his Xmas playlist
not really my type of music but I liked ‘Sleighride’ and ‘Walking in the Winter’and of course‘Christmas Time is Here.’
The other two tracks not so much.
Anway next up is @Coatigan who‘s enjoying a break in the remote highlands at the moment so he’s asked me to post his playlist

Following on from where PC left off in mood, these are meant to touch on the end of year, and height of winter feeling.

Taking a less is more stance here, and siticking with just 3 songs. Partly because I imagine many will be in a post Christmas slumber mode, or lose track of time. And partly because I'd rather focus on a particular tone and give it the time it deserves, without overdoing it.

The songs are all Karine Polwart collaborations. Imo, they are that type that give back what you put into them. They are not background songs. They will simply slip by unnoticed to spon away in the background. They are slow. There is a reason for the pace, and choosing it, hope some can embrace it. There is a little bit of poetry to them too, old and new.

Avoided the temptation to throw in something upbeat or lively to mix it up, particularly with New Year coming. May end up being an oppurtunity missed. Hope these can do what they are intend to instead.

See songs below, havent made a dedicated playlist yet, rushing about to finish things just now. Hopefully do that at some point, if not at least you know what they are. Took a screenshot on my phone with album covers to help find them but seems you can't attach things in PMs

-The lost words blessing - Spell Songs, Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis
-Parting Glass - Karine Polwart, Dave Milligan
-January Man - Lau, Karine Polwart
