Lol, I had the lovecats on my list for the week. That's 3 close matches now, and I see other posters have mentioned being beaten to songs too. Are we maybe entering a musical version of 'menstrual synchrony' on this thread, or is it just this theme.

The theme lends itself for me to a whole raft of good songs. This is shaping up to be the most enjoyable one for me personally. Tomorrow's may divide a few though
 
Sad, by Indoor Foxes is a stunning song, really liking that just now.

Well done @NotThreeSpireshonest for nominating it yesterday (via PM to me) and including it in the list. A song that has had a grand total of only 3,940 listens as well, I like your style.

Lol, just spat my coffee out. This playlist is shaping up to be (a) the best one yet (b) the most dubiously assembled. But given we're moving to a more 'selective' approach after this we might as well go out with a bang!
 
When it comes to funk people like to focus on James Brown and P-Funk. But a decade before Flash Light when George Clinton was still making doo-wop music, Sly and the Family, and more specifically Larry Graham, were doing this:

The thing is, I don' think anyone actually noticed that one just appear. Maybe used the wildcard too early.

I've got a funk offering I think you might enjoy, and potentially explore further. If a someone doesn't beat me to it. I want to slow it down a bit tomorrow at some point too.

I was sort of relying on you to deliver a Budos Band track so I didn't have to break out our mutual friend again! However if you've got something new and unheard on offer then I'll happily take that instead.

As for slowing it down that's definitely where I'm going tomorrow but with a bit of a twist.

Argh too many good ones to choose from!

I have a feeling if Rob is away on holiday, he might PM me or you a couple suggestions to put forward on his behalf, so his turns don't go to waste.

I think you're probably right on that, my memory might be faulty but I seem to remember it was Rob who was impressed with Ron Carter's bass work on Gil Scott-Heron's first album. Be surprised if he didn't want to share that kind of thing with others. On the Budos Band he also scored them pretty highly so wouldn't be surprised if he pinged us one of theirs either.

Paolo Nutini - Through the Echoes

A more subtle but equally as significant use of the bass in this one, almost as a background. It is simple, discreet, but adds a layer that I struggle to imagine the song without. It sort of contrasts his in and out singing with a steady very basic but effective du-dum du-dum, over and over again. At times particularly later in the song almost feels like a heartbeat, really making you feel the low pace of it.

Once again was a toss-up between this and the very next song on the album, Acid Eyes, which is also a lovely downbeat song, with a much more obvious and prominent use of the bass. Went for this for its subtlety for the playlist, but worth giving it a whirl if doing extra curricular listening.

Paolo is one that seems easy to overlook, and there might even be a degree of apathy to him that I don't really understand. But he knows how to write a song, imo.
