I just love the probably apocryphal story of Les Claypool trying out for the vacant Metallica bassist position and James Hetfield saying, “Sorry dude — you’re too good. You should form your own band.” Claypool is one of rock’s great eccentrics and while I don’t love everything by Primus I do have a lot of fondness for the songs I like best.
