Well played everyone.
We all did a fair bit of legwork tonight. Probably the most competitive game I've seen down there.
Some tough tackles, but all played in a really good spirit.

I thought no overhead and throw ins for the pesky net made for a better quality game. What do you guys think?

Nice to see we're getting to know each others names. Shirts wise, whites v darks helped too.

Cheers for turning up. Really enjoyed it, thought everyone was superb.

Ye really enjoyed tonight as ever lads, to early to put me down for next week?

I think that throw ins worked really well as did no over head hight(although personaly i am not a fan of no over head hight rule).

PS thanks for that look at the pictures from the party and all.

No worries.

Alright lads. It's James, the lad in the Rochdale shirt. Just like to say thanks for the game. Really enjoyed it, even if I was blowing a bit and Steve kept banging OGs past me! Just give us a shout if you need us again. On tonights evidence I need all the playing time I can get!

Cheers.

I agree about overhead but think the game would flow better if we didn't stop when hitting the net?

What a great comeback aswell, think we were 9-6 down at one point with not long to go!

Thanks for your reply Simmers.

Bearing in mind how competitive it was last night, it could've got a bit messy if a few tackles went in whilst someone was tangled up in the netting.

I actually thought uncontested kick & throw ins made the game faster. Not as if you have to go and fetch the ball like in 11 a-side. It's there ready to bring straight back into play.

Sometimes when there's 2, even 3 people battling on the net and players getted dragged across, the ball seems to get stuck on there for an eternity.

Now, now. We all know it's the taking part and not the winning that counts ;-)
(From someone on the team who lost 10-9 in the last minute).

In all seriousness, I'd rather have a game like last night than a one-sided stroll in the park. Whoever picked those finely matched teams must be a genius :-).

You have a fair point. But what about maybe trying a rule that if someone has the ball near the netting, you're not allowed to tackle him and have to let him out? We play this rule at Powerleague when someone is near the corner, to stop tackles flying in..

Maybe trial that next time and see which works better?

I know what you mean about no tackling in the corners, we apply the same rule at the Trafford Centre.

Bit different with the net as it goes the full length of the pitch. It would narrow a tight pitch even further.

Not sure how it would work and what defines a reasonable distance to give up is. Say the defender steps away from the net and then the attacker takes the extra space down the wing and bangs one in. In the hurly burly of a game like last night, not sure anyone would be generous enough to give an inch after such a scenario.

If you're going to have players stepping away from the net, you might as well do what we did last night, i.e uncontested roll ins.

It penalises the team who puts the ball out of play and rewards the person who pressurises them in the first place. There should be an incentive for forcing a misplaced pass/clearance from an opponent.

*** Bluemoon 5 a side 23/12/09***

Game on Wed 23 at Platt Lane 8pm.

Mark is still injured, so has asked me to organise.

PM me if you want to play.

Great game tonight lads, 10-10 draw with two evenly matched teams.
Thanks Lee for sorting it,have a great Christmas.

Guy said they were open when I asked last week, but think they were trying to get rid of us.

Will phone up later and see what the script is.
