Cold enough for the prolific blanking suit and skeetex boots now?
I was wondering that this morning. Can't be far off but, out with the dog this morning, I reckon a couple of weeks before the thermal boots are needed.

I doubt I'll be blanking mate. I can always resort to catching the obliging bleak if need be; )Cold enough for the prolific blanking suit and skeetex boots now?
It’s high desert so the light does filter differently, it was also one of the nicest weekends of the year. Having said that it was below freezing at night and 26c during the day, everything was covered in frost when I woke up and had shorts back on after breakfastI love the quality of light where you fish
Plenty of Black bears, haven’t heard of any Griz sightings…luckilyAre there Bears in those woods?

Great stuff mate. I bet he was made up.Finally persuaded my youngest (11)to come and do an overnighter with me. We made tea on the bank and had a hot chocolate whilst watching the sun go down before escaping into the bivvy and getting our heads down , around 1am the bite alarms were off and I was into this. You'll have to excuse the photo but he tried his best :) his look as it went into the net followed by "oh my god dad" was a special momentView attachment 27547

priceless, for you, and the lad. Lovely fish, no sign of a "boilie belly", specimen commons are the cream of the crop, imo. Finally persuaded my youngest (11)to come and do an overnighter with me. I'm assuming 'fannying about with the clutch' is a euphemism for wanking off in the bivvy?Just lost a beast!
It went on a powerful run and i lost it fannying about with the clutch, bastard!
River has rose about 4" in 2 hours and it's getting some colour in. A guy on the far bank had a decent barbel an hour before dusk which is a promising sign.
Pissing down at the moment but I'm just settling down in my bivvy nicely ready for some barbel action in the night, hopefully.

That’s what happens when you use the world’s most massive reels on a river, mate. The fishing gods will always punish unbalanced tackle.Just lost a beast!

I lost the fish due to having the clutch too tight, tried releasing it but it snapped me. 12lb double strength. I know i know, you did tell me it was shite mate. I need to get used to these front drag reels. The Shimano's were much easier with having a rear drag. I do like these fox reels so far though. The line lay is superb, much better than the Shimano 6000's i have. That’s what happens when you use the world’s most massive reels on a river, mate. only joking but seriously, I can’t play fish on the clutch. Never have been able to. I like the control of backwinding. I know many good anglers use the clutch but it’s not for me.
You should be in for some fish. Im rooting for you. Forgot to text back earlier but I’m not free now until weekend. Gutted.
Never had a problem with line lay on my Shimano Baitrunners and have had many. I won’t say any more about the Double Strength mate because I said it all on text but that decision has cost you a fish, not the reel, because correctly tied flouro or braid in 12lb will not snap even if you hook and hold a 20lb fish. At least you won’t make that mistake again!I lost the fish due to having the clutch too tight, tried releasing it but it snapped me. 12lb double strength. Not easy using PVA bags in this weather. I might try rubbing vegetable oil on the outside to stop rain penetrating them when I'm casting out.
