Bluemoon Angling Thread

I was planning to do some lure fishing on local Canals in the near future, (Llangollen and Montgomery Canals). I have looked at those Salmo lures...are they worth it ? The rate I loose them it may be an expensive day out.
do yourself a favour, if you pop down to the canal in poynton my lures are hanging like baubles on a christmas tree :) on every tree, as a wise man said to me, expensive flashy lures are made to catch anglers not fish

i've not been able to get out much lately with one thing or another, whenever i dont get out i usually buy more lures instead :(

Absolute sickener. Hook pulled or snapped. More detail required.
I hate to admit it mate, but it did me. On 24lb fresh seaguar fluoro.
Took nearly all my backing twice. I waded down as far as I could, but it was getting too deep and fast to follow it further.
Over half an hour and I never even saw it.
I tried everything I know, but it wouldn't run upstream as I wanted.
I could feel it rubbing its gob against the rocks mid river in the end.
Only options were to pull my lifejacket and try to follow into the next pool, or hold hard and hope.

Gutted.

Sounds like an extremely big fish. Half an hour, fuck sake.
That is very hard luck. Did you get anything else?

I feel your pain snorky. I really do. It is difficult to explain the emotion of a lost monster to a non angler. Some of them never leave you.

Weather changed to dull with very strong wind. Ideal conditions. Last couple of days we have been fishing the Alqueva Reservoir, the largest dam in Western Europe. Vast reservoir. Took us half a day to find a swim that looked propimising. Fed plenty of groundbait but had nothing until dusk came and we had two small catfish. Buggered off sharpish. Went back next day and finally found some fish, three carp between 8 and 13.5 lbs which is a good stamp for up here. My mate maintains he saw a probable 20+ so we'll be back there today. Best venue we've fished. No small ones by the looks of things.

Bad luck mate. I know how much losing that fish means to you, I'm gutted for you. One day you'll hook another monster and land it.Good luck and tight lines.

90 peg winter league today on the Leeds Liverpool canal from Appley Bridge to Crooke , Wigan . Typical early winter , cold clear canal and a horrible day weather wise . Cold heavy rain and even some hailstone . Luckily caught 2 good bream around 2.5 lbs a piece and 40 small roach plus a bootlace eel for 7.9.12 and 4th place in the match and a few quid ! ;-)
